Ok, we all know, last year I screwed up. It's a wonderful thing to sell out early when you're a grower, but it's down right embarrassing when you had the success we had last year. We sold a whole greenhouse full in about two hours which is exciting for us I can tell you, but I truly felt badly about how many of you I disappointed. So, this year we planted a lot more, as you can see here, and they are looking great! I feel confident when I say there will be plenty for everyone. Remember this year we are offering the impatiens sale only at the farm so check the website for directions and remember we open at 7:00 am for members only! (Yes! you're a member!!) This is your excuse to come out and see 'em where we grow 'em, so come out Saturday and see what we've been up to for the last four years. And yes, that big, ugly thing in the background is one of our now infamous giant hanging baskets soon to be adorning our entrance on route 1.

I know you're just dying to...

But don't do it!!! I know all of those hydrangea twigs are driving you neat freaks crazy, but if you do it, it will be the year without flowers, and nobody wants that. So put your pruners away and bring them out in another month and if they're all still twiggy, you can cut to your heart's content. Remember the blooms are in those ugly little stems right now, just waiting to bust out and if you or your landscaper comes along with the buzz saw, it's all over until June of 2011, so just leave them alone. You'd be amazed how many of those stems are still going to come to life. If you've already cut yours, don't worry, we'd be glad to sell you a new one.

When you're a farmer this is a scary sight...

No, not the crow, the moon. It may be an old wives' tale, but the full moon is closely associated with frosts this time of year and tonight we are experiencing the last full moon of April, and the next one won't come until the end of May. While none of the weather people were expecting a frost, when I woke up at 4:00 this morning and saw this scene out the window, I knew we were in trouble. I drove down to the greenhouses and turned on our irrigation and saved a lot of beautiful flowers from an early demise. The good news for you is that I believe frost season is over for this spring and by this weekend you should feel pretty comfortable planting most annuals in this area. If you have any doubts, please ask any one of us for specifics, but I think we're in the clear.
