Is that a hydrangea?
No. A dogwood? No, it's one of the very best flowering shrubs and it's way under-appreciated. It's a viburnum. There are literally hundreds of types of viburnums. Although this is my favorite to look at it has no fragrance as many viburnums are famous for. This one is Viburnum Tomentosa 'Shasta' and it blooms for a several weeks this time every summer. It is very hardy and prefers a lot of sun. If you're looking for consistent blooms from year to year, give this one a try. (If you know where I took this picture, your eating too much fast food, like me.)

It's not too late!.
If you have images like these bouncing around in your head and you were sure you were going to plant your own veggie garden this year, fear not!! It's not too late! We planted several crops of veggies this year to have fresh plants ready all season long. We've even got tomato plants with tomatoes on them right now. I used to laugh at people who bought our super sized tomato plants for $20. until I planted one at home myself. Sue and I picked over 20 lbs of tomatoes from that one plant. Plant one on your patio and see for yourself. Mention this email and we'll give you $5.00 off one of the big ones. (12" pot)

Sum mer Pricing has begun!
If you ever wondered what goes into producing our wonderful annuals, the number two cost after labor, is heat. As efficient as our new greenhouse is, it is still really big and it can cost a small fortune to heat. Fortunately, the spring was exceptionally warm, especially at night when we use most of our heat, and the price of propane has been nearly half what it was last year. These factors combined allow us to lower the price of our 6" annuals almost a month early this year. Same great flowers, much better value. So if you're thinking of planting one more pot (or two, or three or four....) or if you're just a procrastinator like me, now is the time!! |
