The Impatiens are here!
Yes, they're finally here and Spring is too!.  It's the sale that every one waits for and it's upon us now.  Lots of people ask why we have the sale so early in the year?  The answer is that we are rewarding you for taking a little bit of risk and undertaking a little bit of extra work.  It is definitely possible that we may have another frosty night or two.  Some of our customers buy their impatiens and plant them as soon as they get home.  Others "harden them off" by moving them in to the garage at night and back out in the day time.  While I suggest the latter, I have seen both methods work successfully.  In ten years of selling these impatiens early, we've seldom ever had a complaint.  The other really big reason for having this sale now is it clears out some valuable greenhouse space so we can plant even more plants right now and you can buy some more fresh blooms in July and August.

So, what's the verdict?

jack frost

A lot of people ask me what is my very favorite plant.  That's a pretty tough call when you spend your day surrounded by beautiful plants.  The plants I like the least are the ones that don't sell, but my favorite perennial is this one, Brunnera Macrophylla 'Jack Frost,' aka Siberian Bugloss.  I have always been a sucker for shade plants and this one is truly the best I've ever grown.  Variegated Brunnera varieties have been around a long time, but they were seldom very hardy.  After 5 years in my garden, I can assure you that this one is.  Not many plants bloom in the shade.  Most, such as hosta just show off their flashy foliage.  But this one is an exception.  Those beautiful forget-me-not like flowers hang in there for about two months and the foliage looks great right up until frost.  Sadly, this one costs a bit more than the run of the mill shade plant, but believe me it's worth it.
