10 ways to future-proof your business

If there's one constant in business, it’s change.

Knowing what your business will look like in five or ten years is important, but your long-term goals should never detract from your short-term objectives. If you don’t have specific, measurable, action-oriented and—most importantly—realistic short-term objectives in place, your business may not have much of a future.

One technique that businesses can utilize when looking to the future is called "flash foresight." This way of thinking allows businesses to look forward and unearth previously invisible opportunities, as well as transform their findings into a model that they can use to solve any problems. By knowing what to expect down the road, businesses can future-proof their technology and staffing needs accordingly, ensuring they’re prepared for any obstacles they may encounter.

Here are ten things you should consider when preparing to future-proof your business.

How much will your computer network
cost you this month?

We recently hosted an informational webinar on the cost-effective model of managed services (proactive networking monitoring and management) and had some great questions from the attendees about the service and how it works compared to the traditional support model. By taking a deeper look at real scenarios, we were able to provide a better understanding of this proactive model. Even if you weren’t able to attend this webinar live, we’ve provided the full recorded session with questions and answers at the end.

With this webinar, we tried to answer the question, “How much will your computer network cost you this month?” It’s a question that business owners and managers have a hard time giving a concrete answer to, and with good reason. When you really stop and think about it, there are so many things that go into the “cost” of your computer network. . .

  • Dollars put into the day-to-day maintenance and service of a network.
  • If it goes down, how long will your team be unable to work?
  • The cost of repairs and service to get back online.

If your network crashes, when all of this is taken into account, the cost can be in the thousands by the time you’re back online. This reactionary model to IT support is quickly going by the wayside for a more predictable and cost-effective proactive model – Managed Services.

If you’re interested in learning more about Managed Services and the proactive model of IT support, this webinar is a good starting point! Check it out and let us know if you have any questions.

HTS COO Jane Cage inducted into IT Hall of Fame

We would like to congratulate our own Jane Cage, HTS COO/CFO, for her induction into the CompTIA IT Hall of Fame as a founding member of Ingram Micro’s VentureTech Network! Jane, along with our friends Ted Warner (Connecting Point, Greeley, CO) and Steve Harper (NMGI, Hutchinson, KS) worked together to form the IT reseller community group nearly 20 years ago. VTN has since grown to hundreds of reseller members from across the US and Canada. Jane and the other Hall of Fame inductees were honored on April 11th at the CompTIA Annual Member Meeting in Chicago.

Business Continuity Tip:
Workplace Violence

It has dominated recent headlines, gunman in Northern Ohio opened fire inside a high school cafeteria killing two students and wounding three others. It is always shocking when you hear stories like this and think that a place you considered safe and secure could turn life-threatening.

It is an unimaginable thought; however, the risk is one that cannot be ignored. Violence in the workplace is a threat that most executives take seriously but few actually plan for. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), approximately two million Americans are victims of workplace violence each year; costing businesses up to $120 billion annually.

The facts are astonishing, but what can we do to protect ourselves? Download the OSHA factsheet to learn more about the risk factors and scope of violence in the workplace as well as prevention tips for both employers and employees alike.
