Women of Faith
By Sandra Lear
"Little pig, little pig, let me come in," growled the big, bad wolf. The little pig cried, "Not by the hair of my chiny, chin, chin!" So the wolf huffed, and puffed, and blew the straw house down. The little pig ran as fast as he could to his brother's house of sticks. Soon the wolf was at that door repeating his threats. He blew again and the house fell down. This time both pigs ran as fast as they could to their brother's house of bricks. Again the wolf came to their door, threatening and blowing, but he couldn't harm the brick house or the three little pigs inside. What are you using to build your house? As women of faith, let's build a "house of bricks" for our children through prayer. In our world today, as never before, we need to provide a safe haven for our children. We can't be with them every minute of every day, but we know the One who can! We can't protect their hearts and minds from the enemy of their souls, but we know the One who can! Prayer - what a mighty weapon God provided for women of faith! God's Word assures us that He hears and answers prayer. James 5:16 says "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." Our prayers DO make a difference! What perils has God spared our children from because we prayed for them? Be a woman of faith -- every day before they leave for school, pray over your children. Ask God to protect, guide, and keep them. He kept all four of mine, and He will keep yours too, if you ask Him. Even when leaving for Bible School one asked, "Aren't you going to pray for me?" Of course, I did! School is in the past for them now, but I still pray for them every day and for my four grandchildren too! I trust God's mighty hand to guide and keep them daily. Yes, let's pray for our children, but even more important, let's teach THEM to pray - by instruction and by example. Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in way he should go: when he is old, he will not depart from it." Those coming behind us need to become women (and men) of faith too! I've read the three little pigs' story to my children and grandchildren over the years, but forget that brick house! I want real safety for my family, don't you? Proverbs 18:10 tells us to run to the strong tower, Jesus Christ, to be safe for all eternity! Our families depend on us, let's be women of faith! Editors note: Sandra Lear, Minnesota District Ladies President, attends the Mankato UPC pastored by son-in-law, Jeremy Cox. She and her husband Lester are the Home Bible Study Coordinators, since his retirement as pastor. They have four children and four grandchildren.

Faith
By Angelene Wahler
Webster says faith is allegiance to duty or person; fidelity to one's promises; sincerity of intentions; belief, trust in and loyalty to God; firm belief in something for which there is no proof; complete trust; something that is believed especially with strong conviction.
I've been taught about faith all my life from scriptures, my parents and preachers. As a Pastor's Daughter, who then became a Pastor's Wife, I've had to lean on, be an example of, and teach faith, using the faith scriptures in the Bible.
When evangelizing with my parents, I learned early on to put my faith in Jesus. Driving from city to city, you learn to have faith that you'll have a place to stay and food to eat. I can remember praying as we traveled, please let them have food I like, a nice bedroom to sleep in, and kids my age.
When my parents answered the call to be Home Missionaries to Buffalo, NY, it challenged my faith a bit. I prayed and put my faith in God to lead me to a Godly spouse that was right for me, and He did. Through the years I've looked to the scriptures to help my faith. I've been afraid many times and I've felt my life was being tossed to and fro, but when I went to Jesus, He calmed me. Anytime my family gets sick, I always know that we can pray the prayer of faith to be healed.
We may find it difficult to follow the faith scriptures. When we feel that God didn't answer our prayer the way we wanted, it can challenge our faith. We must remember that God sees the whole picture and when we give our life over to Him, He is in control and knows what's best. The Bible says to come to Him like little children. Children have a built in faith that all their needs will be met. Many times my children taught me this when they would suddenly jump into the air toward me and just expect to be caught.
Fear comes through life's experiences and faith comes by the Word of God. We walk by faith not by sight when the prognosis is bad, yet we go to our knees in prayer and God intervenes. When we find our faith getting weak it's time to renew the Spirit within us. The phrase "faith without works is dead," means we have to put legs on our prayers. We can pray for revival but if we don't witness, no one will come. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, when He comes for me I will say I've fought a good fight, I've finished my course, I've kept the faith. it.
Editors note: Angelene is married to Robert Wahler who is the Pastor of New Life Center in Buffalo, NY. She is Music Minister of their church and Ladies Ministries President of New York. They have two children.

In 2008 we were appointed to Micronesia (West) and based on the island of Guam. I began a Daughters of Zion prayer meeting the first Monday of each month on the island. Since that time, God has answered many prayers.
We left Guam to deputize and now serve the Pacific Region as evangelists basing in Manila, Philippines andt God is still answering the prayers we daughters prayed years ago on Guam. One of the island's pastor's daughter who was raised in the church, now a wife and mother of two, was baptized in Jesus' name on a Sunday recently. Daughters, do NOT stop praying! -Kelley Dibble, Missionary to Micronesia (West)/Pacific Region Evangelism At last month's Daughters of Zion prayer meeting, a new convert requested prayed for her adult daughter for salvation. The daughter came to church last night and was baptized! |

| 1999, World Network of Prayer Director, Thetus Tenney shared an interesting article with Gwyn Oakes about the Praying Mothers of Brazil. Sister Oakes had a burden for this type of ministry and Sister Tenney suggested it as a venture for the Ladies Division. The burden was shared with the National Ladies Committee. Ruth Harvey expressed a desire to work with the program and was chosen as director. From the many titles submitted Daughters of Zion was chosen. Debbie Akers joined as editor of the Daughters of Zion newsletter. |
