Keepers At Home
 By Debbie Dean

Titus 2:4-5 reads: That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chase, keepers at home, good , obedient to their own husband, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

If you had a very large, valuable jewel, where would you keep it? Out in the open, so everyone could see it and admire it when they came to visit? Maybe on your kitchen cabinet for you to admire while preparing meals? Better yet, in the family room so it could be the center of attention! No! Absolutely not! We would have that gem secured behind lock and key. Because of its value.

The phrase "keepers at home" means a person who keeps, one who watches, guards and maintains. God has entrusted us as Mothers, to be a keeper, a guard for our home.

Our children are very valuable and we cannot leave them to be a "sitting duck" for satan. We must instill and teach this precious truth to them while they are young. Being spiritually sensitive and aware of traps and pit falls satan prepares for them is a must.

Deut.6:7 reads, And thou shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house and when thou walkest by the way and when thou liest down and thou riseth up.

Our children are the greatest treasure we have. Ladies, we can be something men can NEVER be...A MOTHER! The Lord gave us the privilege to be 'a keeper' of the home. Enjoy the precious present with your children now. The precious present is not something that someone gives you, it is a gift you give yourself, and your children. Enjoy them, love them, guard, maintain them, they are your Treasure!

MEMORIALSDOZ Memorial day
By Ruth Harvey

Throughout history, mankind has sought to establish memorials of remembrance.  One of our holidays is even named, "Memorial Day".  Established after the Civil War, this day was set aside to commemorate the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the cause of freedom.

Washington D.C. is filled with monuments. Recently I was privileged to take a tour of these impressive memorials. We stopped at the Vietnam memorial and walked alongside the marble stones etched with thousands of names, representing the sacrifices of many. Moved with emotion, I paused to give thanks that we still live in a country with freedom to serve the Lord with gladness.

Later, as we arrived at the Arlington National Cemetery for the final changing of the guards, the solemn elegance of the rite gripped my heart. Headstones engraved with countless names surrounded us, representing the innumerable company of patriots who gave their lives for our freedom.

In like manner, as darkness envelops this world, the majesty of the memorials erected by our spiritual forbearers shines brighter than ever. Illuminated by the light of their love for God, these landmarks stand in mute testimony to their consecrated lives. As time rapidly draws to a close and the light of eternity beckons, there has been a changing of the guards. Preparing to pass through Jordan's chilly waters, our elders are passing on the torch to this present-day generation and entrusting us with their memorials. Both Proverbs 22:28 and 23:10 command us not to remove the ancient landmarks. "Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set...Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless."

What will we do with this responsibility? Will we desecrate the memory of their sacrifices, or will we be moved to follow in their footsteps? May the psalmist's declaration recorded in Psalm 119:11 be echoed in our lives and the lives of our children, "Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart."

Ways to Energize Your Prayer Life

Change Your Environment- If you pray in the light of morning, try praying at night. If you pray in your living room, try praying in your kitchen. If you pray indoors, try praying under the open sky.  Changing your prayer environment can give you a new perspective on your life and spirit.

Change Your Routine- If your prayer time is sandwiched between dinner and bedtime or homework and hobbies, rearrange your schedule so that prayer is the priority. The more important prayer is to us, the more attention we give it, and the deeper we can go into our relationship with God.

Sing- Instead of whispering, praying silently, or intoning your prayerful words, try singing loudly and joyfully or softly and plaintively. Music can be freeing for the spirit--and your prayers will take on a whole new sound.

Exercise- Walk, run, stretch, or cycle while you pray, feeling the rhythm of your spirit with the movement of your body. Use exercise with prayer as a way to reflect upon the gift of your life and self, inside and out.

Listen- Sometimes we are too busy praying to hear what God has to say. If prayer becomes one-sided, boredom can easily follow. Set aside time each day to clear your mind of all distractions, sit in God's presence, and listen.

From UPCI of Fiji Praise the Lord! Thank you so much for the newsletter that is sent to me monthly. I am so grateful to you and the stories that are in the newsletter are so uplifting. I share this with the Ladies Ministries in Fiji and we collectively bless the Lord for bringing to us the Daughters of Zion programme.
Thank you Sis Oakes for the vision and to all of you that are in the team-Sisters Gleason, Debbies Akers, Wanda Fielder, Ruth Harvey and Sis Debbie Sanders, not forgetting Sis Shelba Reed who was our missionary then, we are truly blessed because of you and your dedication in the Ministry. Please know that you are appreciated and be blessed. -Sis Asinate Koroi, UPCI General LM Secretary/Treasurer of Fiji.

A big thank youto the DOZ prayer team. I had my children's names put on the list for prayer that they would return to the Lord. My daughter Jacque Turner (out of the church for about 26 years) has returned to God and our granddaughter Amanda has returned to the church after about 10 years. It is so good to have them worship along side of me. Our son Eric and his wife are coming on Sunday AM, that is a start. Thanks to everyone that prayed with me. -Aloma Turner, Secretay

Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; ...honor to whom honor is due. -Romans 13:7

Daughters of Zion: 1999, World Network of Prayer Director, Thetus Tenney shared an interesting article about the Praying Mothers of Brazil with Gwyn Oakes. Sister Oakes had a burden for this type of ministry and Sister Tenney suggested it as a venture for the Ladies Division. Sister Oakes shared her burden with the National Ladies Committee. Ruth Harvey expressed a desire to work with the program and was chosen as director. From the many titles submitted Daughters of Zion was chosen. Debbie Akers joined as editor of the Daughters of Zion newsletter.
