Testimony of Proof Positive of the Power of a Praying Mother
By Mary McLaughlin, Daughters of Zion Coordinator, Connecticut District

My children were brought up in church; my husband is a minister.  As a young teenager, my daughter, Marcia, loved the Lord.  She was always the last to leave the altar; she loved to pray.  She and I were very close.

Just before her 16th birthday, my beautiful daughter changed.  She no longer was interested in church and became very rebellious.  She started hanging out with the wrong crowd. She became an alcoholic along with all that went with that life style, including suicidal.  My heart was broken.  I spent hundreds of nights praying and crying out to God and looking out the window for the headlights that would mean Marcia was home.

When she was nineteen years old, she became pregnant.  I give her credit for immediately stopping the smoking and drinking and the staying out all night.  She would once in a while come to church at the urging of her brothers and would be under great conviction.

I am so grateful God didn't give up on her.  I am grateful for the church that we were attending at that time, Calvary Life Center in Waterbury, CT.  They were so kind and loving to Marcia, even giving her a baby shower.  That meant so much to me.

In 1998, her little girl was seven.  My daughter had now been backslidden for ten years.  I had taken my granddaughter, to church camp with me.  On the first Sunday evening, my little granddaughter received the Holy Ghost.  She called her mommy to tell her.

To show you how God works:  My daughter was now married to her long-time live-in boyfriend and she was pregnant with their child.  She worked for a national insurance company and received a promotion that meant she had to commute to another city.  In the meantime, Sue, a member of the local UPC church who worked for the same insurance company, was asked to become the head of a new department.  It turned out she and Marcia arrived at the same location, the same department, at the same time.  They became fast friends.  Sue was at church camp and saw my granddaughter receive the Holy Ghost.  She felt impressed with a plan.

Since she was my daughter's boss, Sue called Marcia and told her she could have the day off on Friday if she would like to come to camp and spend the day with her daughter. Marcia took her up on her offer and the rest is history!  That evening at the altar call, Marcia came forward and God gloriously refilled her with the Holy Ghost!

Today, Marcia is the leader of Daughters of Zion in our local church, Heritage United Pentecostal Church in Bristol, Connecticut.

Mothers, Grandmothers, don't give up.  God is faithful!  He will keep His promises!

Martha Hands and a Mary Heart
     By Ruth Harvey, DOZ Director

Have you ever heard that saying-"the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother"?   Truly, a family that has a godly, loving husband and father is extremely blessed. However, that concept needs to be taken one step further and applied to each of our lives. The greatest thing anyone can do for their family is to have a consistent dedication to God.  Yet, in this fast-paced society, it seems there are not enough hours in a day to accomplish everything.  Nevertheless, I have learned down through the years-we all make time for the things that are the most important to us!  In light of this truth, think back over the past day, week, or month.  Did you consistently make time for God?  Was He important enough to include in your daily schedule or has the Lord been pushed to the back burner of your life?

Luke 10:38-42 showcases two women who responded quite differently to the opportunity to spend time with Jesus.  Martha, ever the diligent hostess got all caught up in service aspect of things.  Setting a beautiful table, preparing a delicious meal and creating a hospitable environment became the dominating force in her life.  This drive to excel caused her to overlook one of the most amazing opportunities.  Just think, Jesus was in her house!  She actually had the chance to sit at His feet in sweet fellowship.  Sadly, Martha became caught up in achieving her goals and failed to take advantage of this marvelous opportunity.  Instead the harried hostess cornered her honored guest and began griping about her 'lazy' sister who was just sitting around listening to Jesus. But the Master's response highlighted the fact that Mary had indeed made the better choice.

In this high-energy generation, it is imperative to set aside a sacred time of daily devotion.  As Charles Spurgeon so ably points out, Martha's fault was not that she was busy serving:  "Her fault was that she grew "cumbered with much serving," so that she forgot Him, and only remembered the service. She allowed service to override communion, and so presented one duty stained with the blood of another. We ought to be Martha and Mary in one: we should do much service, and have much communion at the same time. For this we need great grace. It is easier to serve than to commune."

    Daughters of Zion Meeting Ideas
THE SINGLE LADIES of our church attend Daughters of Zion prayer meetings even though they have no children of their own to pray for. Instead, they have formed a focus group to pray for the children and young people in our church who have no moms to pray for them. Some come from homes in which there is no mom present; others may be the only one in their family to attend church. Whatever the reason, it is important that these young people have prayer covering too, and our single ladies give that.

I HAVE ENJOYED the newsletters and used the promotional ideas off it to promote to our churches.  A praise report from our church in is as follows:
At the beginning of 2008 a bulletin board was created with individual pictures of our church children. We have focused prayer every Monday and have the bulletin board in our sanctuary.
Around the middle of April a parent let us know about an amazing accomplishment of her daughter, Haley. Haley was selected student of the month in her grade, due to raising her reading level from the bottom of her class to being the top reader in just a matter of few months.  Haley is one of the pictures on the board and every week several individuals have prayed for her!  Thanks.     -Debbie Waits, Centerville, IA, Iowa DOZ Coordinator

     Prayer Request
I WAS READING the praise reports that the Daughters of Zion had prayed and God answered. If you would please pray for my three children-- Mark(9), Elaina (7), and John David (2). They could really use a touch from God. Also my husband who is a backslider. As I said it was a blessing just to be able to read the praise reports. -Marilynn Harrison

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL story! (Angelic Visitation, By Lori Wagner, May Issue) Thanks for sharing... now I need to wipe my eyes! ;) -Laurie Sims, Kansas City, MO

THANK YOU SO much for incuding me in the email list.  I enjoy the words of testimony each time and am especially thankful for the focused prayer "Living in Harmony" in this May letter.  The Lord has definately been working on me in this area and the words of prayer will be a help for me each day.  May the Lord continue to Bless this ministry as it reaches out to touch the hearts of all of us.  -Mary Medellin, Life Tabernacle, Houston, TX
