Who We Are . . .

Daughters of Zion is made up of women worldwide, who meet on the first Monday of each month to pray focused prayer for children of the local church community.

Our Mission . . .

We are committed to the spiritual preservation of this generation and beyond and the spiritual restoration of previous generations.

Our Need . . .

Committed women who will join together on the first Monday of each month and pray focused prayer for their children and the children of the local church and community.

Three Priorities of Prayer . . .

1.   The salvation of our children (Isaiah 49:25; Psa 144:12; Isa 43:5-6).

2. That they take ownership of the faith at an accountable age (I John 2:25-28; James 1:25).

3. That they enter into the ministry of the Lord's harvest (Matthew 9:38)

COMMUNICATION WITH GOD
By Gwyn Oakes, UPCI Ladies Ministries President

How do we communicate with God? By prayer and reading His Word. If the disciples felt their most urgent need was to learn to pray, it would follow that learning to pray should be our greatest need as well. The disciples did not ask Jesus to teach them to preach, to teach, or to sing. Their request was, "Teach us to pray." We communicate with Him through prayer.

My father was a man of prayer. After my mother's death when I was three years old, I would have nightmares and awaken screaming. Daddy would hold me and talk to God about my fears. When I was sick, he prayed; and as I grew up, I heard him pray for me. He prayed, he prayed . . . my father's relationship with God was so special that I desired that same communication with God.

Prayer was an essential practice for the church in the New Testament. Likewise, prayer must be essential in our lives if we are to have His blessing on our ministry. When we pray fervently, we know that the power of God is at work. How? Because James 5:16 declares, "The effectual fervent prayer . . . availeth much." Fervent prayer opens the way to a Sprit-filled life and brings us power for ministry. Prayer, sincere and earnest prayer, clarifies the will of God for our lives and helps us to overcome Satan. When we pray, we bring glory to God.

Prayer is like any other exercise. It is most beneficial if it is consistent. We cannot separate prayer from everyday life. Satan knows our weaknesses and will do his best to distract our minds and thoughts while praying. So discipline in prayer is very necessary to our calling-not just discipline to pray, but discipline while we pray. If we can be separated from our source of strength, then understanding our mission will not be accomplished. When we pray, God opens doors for us and gives us direction in our calling, just as he did for the apostle Paul.

There is no greater privilege than communication with God. There is no greater calling than the call to be an intercessor. Prayer does not make us ready for the greater work; it is the greater work. Prayer does not prepare us for the battle-prayer is the battle. Christ, our example, won His battles in prayer.

Much is written about prayer in the scriptures. Prayer is our lifeline to the throne of God. Paul told the Colossians to "continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving" (Colossians 4:2). We must pray continuously, intensely, and stay alert to the things that would keep us from communication and a right relationship with God.

SACRIFICING OR SANCTIFYING OUR FUTURE
By Ruth Harvey. DOZ Director

In the beginning part of August 2002 an urgent all-points bulletin was issued-A Child Was Missing! Immediately a rescue attempt ensued and for days search parties combed the surrounding area.  During the entire ordeal whenever the people grew thirsty or tired, they would gather in the yard of the victim's family to recoup their energy.  Scattered throughout the vicinity were several old cars that belonged to the grandfather.  Those old junkers had seen better days, but for some reason the elderly man kept hanging on to them.  Eventually the rescue team started using the ancient cars as a place to sit while drinking cold drinks and eating sandwiches.  After days of harrowing futile searching, there was still no sign of the missing child.  Anguish filled the hearts of his family.  Where was their beloved little boy?

Finally, after a lengthy passage of time he was discovered inside one of the old junk cars where he had decided to play.  Unable to escape from the ancient vehicle, the play area became his tomb.  One of the searchers said, "If only I had known he was in there!"  Many times throughout the course of the frantic search, she had sat on that very car drinking her soda and never even knew the missing child was only inches away.  The little boy was so close to freedom, yet he perished inside an old piece of junk that someone kept holding on to in hopes it might prove to be valuable some day.  Oh, how that family probably came to hate the ancient car that became the grave of their little boy.  If only they could have gazed into the future and realized what a tragedy would arise from that worthless automobile, it probably would have been hauled away long ago.  Tragically, it claimed a life which could never be restored.

This true story grips our hearts, causing many emotions to rise within our souls.  Nevertheless, it sounds a solemn spiritual warning to each one of us.  If we do not continually take stock of the things allowed to accumulate in our lives, heartbreaking consequences could occur in our families.  Oftentimes when adults make bad decisions, the children will pay the penalty for their parent's mistakes.  This principle is born out in God's Word.  When studying the nation of Israel it becomes very apparent that their children suffered severely when the parents turned their backs on God.  Coming under the influence of the surrounding wicked nations, the Israelites began sacrificing their children on the heathen altars of Molech (Jeremiah 32:35, Ezekiel 23:37).  Embracing the idolatrous practices of the heathen, they sacrificed their future on the altars of their own lustful desires.

Likewise, in this modern-day hedonistic culture, we cannot allow our children to be destroyed on the present day altars of sensuality, no restraint, godlessness and debauchery prevailing in the land.  America was founded on godly principles and the quest for religious freedom.  However, these foundational moral truths are increasingly under vicious attack as materialism, perversion, drugs, alcohol, pornography, promiscuity, filthy entertainment and abortion on demand are embraced, defended and propagated.

In the name of freedom of speech, our offspring are being exploited and defiled through the medium of pornography.  Abortion clinics are gobbling up our posterity.  The minds of our babies are being distorted and destroyed by filthy films and murderous virtual reality games.  Drugs, alcohol and nicotine are like a cancer eating away at their potential.  Promiscuity is protected, promoted and even encouraged by various groups with corrupt agendas.  Trash is piling up on every side and if we are not careful, this junk could claim the lives of our children just like that old junker entombed the aforementioned child.

Isn't it time for us to stand up and refuse to allow our sons and daughters to be sacrificed on the altars of depraved desires?  In retrospect one of the women searching for the missing boy mournfully lamented, "If only we had known he was in there, we could have rescued him in time."  Thankfully we still have time.  We can salvage our future!  It's time to take stock and cleanse any ungodly influences from our lives, our homes, our churches, and our nation. Our children must never be sacrificed on these flaming altars of destruction.  It is high time to sanctify our future! According to I Timothy 4:5, sanctification comes through the Word of God and prayer!  Instead of sacrificing our future, let us sanctify it by restoring godly principles and prayer in our homes.  The Ten Commandments are just as essential in this modern day as they were when God gave them to Moses thousands of years ago.  Stealing, killing, coveting, lying, murdering, and adultery are still wrong!  Honoring your father and mother is not antiquated.  Going to church and keeping the Sabbath day holy is still a necessity even in the new millennium.  When God and His laws are shoved aside and moved out of the center of our lives and nation, everything goes haywire!!  However, there is good news-we can renew the godly strength of this country within our personal sphere of influence.  It is time to stop wringing our hands in frustration over the moral disintegration of our nation and start taking action in our own lives.  The ability to effect positive, powerful change is at our fingertips.  Instead of sacrificing our future, let's sanctify it through the Word of God and prayer!

Praise Reports

Alexis, my beautiful seven year old daughter was sitting next to a little girl in a service in Morgantown, WV, pastored by Rev. David Hudson. As the altar call was made for people who needed the Holy Ghost, Lexy turned and asked the girl if she had received it. The little girl responded, "no" and said that she was scared.

Alexis, looking at the girl, said, "Shame on you!  The Holy Ghost is nothing to be afraid of. It is the spirit of God living in your heart." Alexis then said, "Raise your hands in the air. I am going to lay hands on you, and you are going to speak in other tongues as God fills you with the Holy Ghost."  When Lexy laid hands on the girl, she started speaking in tongues!

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."  -Luke 18:16

Praise the Lord.   One of our ladies requested prayer for a son now in his 30's, who left the Lord in his 20's, to please contact her and her husband.   He had not been heard from in several months.  He called them, Hallelujah, several months ago !!   It gets better  ...........  Sunday he was refilled with wonderful baptism of the Holy Ghost and left a voice mail on Dad's phone.   He is now on his way to a live-in treatment center run by one of our ministers to get regrounded and strong in the Lord.    Thank God for ladies who PRAY and BELIEVE !

God bless each of you.  Never give up hope because your miracle regarding your child is soon to come to fruition.

Creative Prayer Ideas

For the holidays: Our DOZ prayer leader got some inexpensive glass ornaments that could be written on with a permanent marker.  Each lady took one and wrote the names of her children on them.  These were exchanged among the ladies during the prayer meeting at the beginning of December so each lady could focus on those children during the holidays.  At the January meeting the ornaments were turned back in and could be used again next year.
