Greetings!

Scott 'Q' Marcus headshot
Can you believe the end of the year is already in view?
As we head into the holidays (yep, it's that time again), we need to make sure to take care of ourselves. After all, it's not like we've got a whole lot of extra time (or money) that we need to get through the holidays. Since we cannot change the holidays (and we might not want to), we need to find ways to take care of ourselves and enjoy (mostly) what's on its way. We've got some experts who are willing to talk to you on the phone (no charge) as well as some great advice and lots of fun right here in this ezine. I know it will help.Striving for Imperfection Volume 1

Big News! I'm very excited that five of the six years of my columns are now published. You can order them one at a time on Amazon, or you can get the complete set with a whole bunch of freebies at a reduced price right here in this ezine.

Gary KarpAs part of the "Getting Past What Holds You Back" national conference call series, on November 2nd at 11AM PT, Gary Karp will help us get past what holds us back with regards to those pesky voices. Gary is an internationally recognized speaker, corporate trainer, facilitator, author, and editor. He has been living - fully - with a T12 spinal cord injury since 1973 when he was injured in a fall from a tree at the age of eighteen.

Dr. Sue MorterOn November 18 at 10AM PT, Dr. Sue Morter will be my guest on in-depth discussion on what holds us back from connecting with our spiritual side. She is an internationally recognized authority on bridging science, spirit and human possibility. In addition to her private practice, she holds seminars around the world with the sole intent of awakening individuals to their own magnificence. She has been referred to as a "Shaman in a Business Suit" and can be seen and heard in multiple documentary films, internet television and radio interviews, and live conferences worldwide.

ThisMonthInTheNewsletterWhat's in this month's newsletter?

Since Halloween is right around the corner, we have a humorous look at stealing candy from our children in our main article.  Our blog postings this month are also funny, ranging from "Potato Wars" to "What We'll Eat in Heaven" And, of course, there are more laughs and lots of motivation in the ever-popular videos.

Understand what makes us happy in a fascinating TED video. Smile at an eldery couple whose still "got it" and get a great laugh from a teenager with a real case of attitude.

Thank you for all the support. Treat yourself special.  Watch out for too much candy.

P.S.  Please to others who might find the articles and links of interest, and take a moment to answer the four anonymous questions at the AttitudeIndex.
As we gear up for All Hallows' Eve (also known as Halloween), I present a cautionary tale about dieting and candy.

Getting Ready for HalloweenAfter  trick-or-treating, I'd take the stuffed sack of sweetened snacks and methodically commence the annual sorting ritual.

First: remove the boring, plain, unimaginative lollipops on white paper sticks. If someone with my heft found them unflavorful, I didn't see how confectionery companies even stayed in business producing them. Vineyards have wine tasting. Don't makers of munchies invest in something similar?

Chocolate bars were meticulously analyzed, classified, and culled from their chewy caramel brethren. Mini bags of jellybeans and foil-wrapped drops were each placed in distinct heaps. When all was it should be, 'twas time to sit back and savor the fruits of my efforts until my teeth ached from sugar, and my belly from bulk.

videosVideos of the Month
We all like videos and the most popular links in the newsletter are therefore the videos I post. I work on finding videos that are inspirational, educational, and humorous.

Video #1: What Makes us Happy?

This is a fascinating look at how we can be happy when things are not the way we want them to be - and what exactly is happiness anyway? He also talks about "natural" vs. "synthetic" happiness, which is a great concept.

Video #2: The Smartest Kid in Class

This is an hysterical advertisement from New Zealand that shows attitude, both negative and positive. I guarantee you will laugh and cheer at the end.

Video #3: Elderly Couple Plays Piano

An impromptu "concert" by an elderly couple when they found a piano. It's not just chopsticks - and watch the guy each time he slides by his wife. You go elderly guy!

(Note: the videos are not embedded in this email. To view them, click on the picture and they'll take you to a location at my blog where you can view them.)   VOTM1

Potato Wars:
How Long can Schools Serve the Lowly Spud?

Potatoes are defined as "starchy vegetables." The department's intent in limiting consumption of starchy vegetables was to "encourage students to try new vegetables..." Personally, I believe the bill targeted the potato because I cannot imagine elementary school children queuing up for an extra helping of lima beans. Read the Full Post

Drowning at 35,000 feet:
Staying Hydrated While on an Airplane

The downside about drinking so much water is the more one drinks; the more one's body needs to drink.  The upshot is I began feeling antsy if I didn't have a water bottle within reach 24/7. Of course, another byproduct of so much water is an excessive need to visit the restroom while flying.   Read the Full Post

Fry Me a River: Trying to Diet in New Orleans

"You're joking!" I blurted out; I couldn't help it. Being a life-long calorie-counter, the thought of frying a chocolate candy bar was mind-boggling. There would be enough calories in that one item to set back a stadium full of dieters.  Read the Full Post

Very Funny Story About Eating Healthy & Going to Heaven

After passing through the Pearly Gates, the couple saw the lavish buffet lunch, with every imaginable cuisine laid out before them. "Where are the low fat and low cholesterol foods?" the old man asked. "That's the best part," St. Peter replied, "You can eat and drink as much as you like of whatever you like and you will never get fat or sick. This is Heaven!" Read the Full Post

Staying out of Office Gossip
by Danielle

What one person had seen as harmless fun ended up being a serious problem for our company. Everyone had to take a day away from work to attend a human resources seminar about interoffice dating. Perhaps that strife could have been avoided had we all been mindful of a few tips:  Read the Full Post

The Four Steps to Improved Communication A Humorous Approach

With Gratitude
"Take some time everyday to be grateful - especially at those times when it's difficult to do so" - from the Shade of a Tree is the Very Best Shade There is

It's important to be thankful, so at the end of my newsletter, I express it publicly.  With that in mind, just some of the people to whom I am grateful include: the Mastermind Alliance; Humboldt Speakers; the Northcoast Small Business Development Center, Weight Watchers International; Mike Domitrz for his support in developing my career; my guest authors; Gary Karp & Sue Morter, my guests this month on "Getting Past What Holds You Back;" my son Brandon for all the work he's done for me this past month; College of the Redwoods; for inviting me to present; Toastmasters District 7 (Oregon) for letting me be one of the keynote speakers, as well as all the other associations who honored me in Oregon over the last month; the folks who have signed up to be coached and supported by me on ThisTimeIMeanit.com; the editors of the newspapers that run my column and the websites that post it - as well as the people who read it; and of course to my family - especially my loving wife Mary Ann.

I am also very grateful to YOU dear reader, for allowing me into into your life.
