Greetings!
For the first time in two years... our level of concern is increasing on almost every level. The International Inspiration Index ("I3") was started in April 2009 to measure our attitude and to predict where we're going. For the most part, despite everything going on around us, we tend to be optimistic, especially in the long term. However, this month, on virtually all levels, we are becoming more concerned about the state of the world than we have been in a long time. It's worth checking out. (The whole story is here.)Also, in this issue, you'll find lots of links to help you do work on keeping up your own attitude. In addition to the monthly analysis of the I3 (referenced above), I'm honored to introduce four new authors to the ThisTimeIMeanIt.com blog. You can find some of their posts here. Beyond that, we have the three videos of the month, a humorous main article about getting older and forgetting stuff (oy!), and a link to a few other posts of interest on the TTIMI blog. Take a few minutes and poke around. Let me know what you like, and what you'd like to see changed. If you're interested in working with me, either as a writer, client, or if you're a meeting planner and need a presenter, I'm always looking to work with people in situations that benefit all concerned. Please don't hesitate to get in touch. As for me? Well, I would appreciate it if you would please to others who might find the articles and links of interest and take a moment to answer the four anonymous questions at the AttitudeIndex. Treat yourself special. Scott "Q" Marcus CDO, www.ThisTimeIMeanIt.com P.S. If you're looking for personalized support, I've put out a special 99 cent trial offer of my services at ThisTimeIMeanIt.com - including a coaching phone call. There's no obligation. No automatic renewal. If you aren't totally excited by what it does for you, no one will hassle you. You can find out more at this link.

" Um, What Were we Talking About?"
Pop quiz! What did they call "multitasking" in the eighties?
Answer: "Lack of focus."
I don't mean to sound like an old fuddy-duddy (of course, using the term "fuddy-duddy" does tend to portray me as such), but like it or not, I am officially of a "certain age." More times than I care to admit, I have strutted with strong intention into the kitchen, and upon arrival, completely blanked as to why I was there. Or, finding myself looking for an item in the closet, I will be briefly distracted, and forget what I was looking for. I have, embarrassingly enough, "lost" my keys on the way to the door on more than one occasion.
My wife and I have entire conversations without ever using proper nouns...

Videos of the Month
The most popular links in my newsletter are the videos I find. I work on finding videos that are inspirational, educational, and humorous. This month, I have again included three. the top one is the longest; it's over twenty minutes long and if you're willing to wait for it to load (which does take some time), I am confident you'll find it fascinating. It's a " TED talk" about how one artist is literally trying to change the world. Next up is a two-minute video about how the correct use of words can make all the difference. It's from a company in the U.K, called Purplefeather. (An interesting note about this video, it's the most popular post on my site in the last 30 days.)Finally, a video that went viral almost overnight. If you haven't seen these two twin baby boys "talking," you have to see it. It's about two minutes. You'll never look at communication the same way again. (If you have seen it, it's worth watching again.) (Note: the videos are not embedded in this email. To view them, click on the picture and they'll take you to a location at my blog where you can view them.)
By the way, if you have a suggestion for a video for the newsletter, please let me know. Most of the time, that's how I find out about these.

A Look at the International Inspiration Index for March & April of 2011
The purpose of the I3 (The International Inspiration Index) is to get a feel for how people are feeling, what's bothering them, and their outlook for the future. It started in late April 2009. If you would like to take the ongoing I3 survey, go to www.AttitudeIndex.com
The bottom line?
Over the last few months, we're getting concerned again. Our collective attitude, although still trending positive, is declining on almost all levels.
The first two questions in the I3 are:
- How would you rate your attitude?
- How would you rate the attitude of those around you?
What's not surprising is that we always rate our own attitude higher than the attitude of those around us. Also, what's not surprising is that both attitudes (our and other's) has been declining lately. (Note the dotted lines heading downwards. You can click on the image to make it larger.)
If you take a look at what the top stories have been the last several months, it probably makes a lot of sense (keep in mind this data was compiled prior to the killing of Osama Bin Laden and the floods along the Mississippi River.)

With Gratitude
"Take some time everyday to be grateful - especially at those times when it's difficult to do so" - from the Shade of a Tree is the Very Best Shade There isIt's important to be thankful, so at the end of my newsletter, I express it publicly. With that in mind, just some of the people to whom I am grateful include: my local Mastermind Alliance; Humboldt Speakers; the Northcoast Small Business Development Center, Weight Watchers International; Jenn, Taylor, Tim, and Sally, who are now writing for and with me; the Municipal Clerks Association of New Jersey for the amazing reaction in Atlantic City; the same for the City Clerks Association of California for the reception in South Lake Tahoe; Grant County, WA for bringing me back next month (hopefully my plane will not get hit by lightning this time; Michelle Rankin and the California Conservation Corps for bringing me back this month; Amy Jester, the Humboldt Area Foundation, and NORCAN for the opportunity they gave me last month; Kathy Kendrix, the president of The Empowerment Group, my speakers bureau, for setting me up withe the showcase in Oregon next month; all my local clients, who continue to hire me; the folks who have signed up to be coached and supported by me on ThisTimeIMeanit.com; the editors of the newspapers that run my column and the websites that post it - as well as the people who read it; and of course to my family - especially my loving wife Mary Ann. I am also very grateful to YOU dear reader, for allowing me into into your life.
