Poetic Vision Tour in Orlando a Success!

It was a pleasant breezy evening as guests poured in by the hundreds. All the audience were a hush as the stage at the beautiful Rollins College Auditorium was set with divine fall colors and host Saad Omar came up to introduce Poets: Raef Haggag, Mrs. Latifah and the star of the evening Dawud Wharnsby who had come all the way from the UK for this special tour.

The audience was mesmerized by the sweet melodies of nasheeds and inspirational poetry and the hours passed by and midnight struck as children and adults alike mused at the conversations and cheered at the performances. A special treat for the evening was a children's performance by Br. Dawud of all the old favorites that we've come to know and love him for. The event was a marvelous success and UMF would like to thank all our guests who came out to support the event and hope you all enjoyed the lovely evening as much as we did.

UCF Islam Diversity Event Attended by HundredsUMF Sponsors Islam: Religion of Peace, Empowerment and Discovery;
It was early one November morning, as students and volunteers began to quietly set up for an amazing display of Muslim Contributions to Science, Mathematics and Technology through the pages of History alongside a dazzling display of HIjabs and Abayas and Henna and Calligraphy Art Booths. The ballroom was a buzz as hundreds of students, staff and community members poured in to enjoy the 1001 Inventions and Discover Islam Exhibit and watch the accompanying feature film starring Ben Kingsly. Guest speakers Dr. Jamal Badawi who flew in from Montreal and Sr. Edina Lekovic from MPAC in California graced the event alongside Imam Abdurrahman Sykes, Rev. Bryan Fulwider, Rev Innman and Miguel Rodriguez for a phenomenal interfaith panel followed by guest speaker presentations on Women in Islam.

Untold hours went into planning for this truly unique event at University of Central FL - home to the second largest population of students in the USA. UMF worked with the United Church of Christ, Peace United Methodist Church as well as UCF's Muslim Student's Association, Student Government Association, Office of Student Diversity and Involvement, Campus Peace Action and Campus Police to make this event the amazing success it was.

Report on Nov 13th Feeding
Narrated by Sr. Zainab Alidina, UMF Hungerteam
"Nov 13th Feeding was amazing; it was our first hot breakfast to cook and serve
to the neighbors who enjoyed a lot, they all had a big breakfast and pancakes were donated by
I hop. We also made scrambled eggs from 48 eggs and served it with Panera Bread's bagels.
A young man stopped by the table where we had cutlery, quilts, shoes, jackets and shirts. He was going to be starting a new job the following Monday, and was to be transferred to a tiny bachelor apartment. He took some shirts and pants and came back wearing them, so excited about how good he looked, praising the Good Lord for blessing him with nice clothes to wear at work.
Another homeless woman came to enjoy the hot breakfast, and said it was the first time she ate eggs for breakfast. It took us all by surprise as these things are easily taken for granted"

"Be the best of who you are because that is what you will present to your Lord" - Sr Shakira Kermalli, UMF Hungerteam

UCF MSA Weekly Updates
At the end of the Hajj (annual pilgrimage to Mecca), Muslims throughout the world celebrate the holiday of Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice). During the Hajj, Muslims remember and commemorate the trials and triumphs of Prophet Ibrahim/Abraham (peace be upon him). The Qur'an describes Abraham as follows: "Surely Abraham was an example, obedient to Allah, by nature upright, and he was not of the polytheists. He was grateful for Our bounties. We chose him and guided him unto a right path. We gave him good in this world, and in the next he will most surely be among the righteous." (Qur'an 16:120-121). http://islam.about.com/od/hajj/a/adha.htm For those that went to Hajj, may Allah accept it. For those of us that didn't have the opportunity to go to Hajj this year, may Allah accept our prayers and give us the opportunity to complete this pillar of Islam in the near future. Ameen.
#1 FREE, MSA Beginner's Arabic workshop this Thursday, November 18th, in room SU 220 at 12:30pm. This event is open to everyone. If you're interested in helping others learn Arabic, contact dawah@msaknights.com Jazakallah khair (May Allah grant you goodness) 'You are the servant, He is the Master. Prayers come from you, answers come from Him. Abstinence comes from you, protection comes from Him. Repentance comes from you, acceptance comes from Him. Go towards him walking, He will come to you running.'
