What Do I Want The Other To Teach About My Religion?
Sunday, October 18, 2009
2:30 - 5:30 pm
hosted by:
Muslim Association of the Lehigh Valley, 1988 Schadt Avenue, Whitehall, PA 18052
What do other religious communities know about your religion? What would you want them to know, and to teach, about your religion? In a society of broadening religious pluralism, we are often drawn to try to learn about other religions. In nearly every church, masjid, and synagogue in the Lehigh Valley, there are courses on "other" religions.
What is each one teaching about the other, though? In this Day of Dialogue, we will have the opportunity to share with neighbors the details we think are most important, most central, most vital about our own religion. These are the things we would want the others to be teaching about us.
Our focus will be on small group discussion, facilitated by leaders of local Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities. The keynote presentations will offer examples of what we want "the other" to teach about us. Each participant also will be able to share in a small group with those from other religions.
Special family program: This year, we plan to have activities related to the theme of the day for children of elementary-school age. Educators from the three religious communities are planning a program that will teach the children about the other faith communities that are participating. The children's program will share some of its activity with the full group toward the end of the day.
By listening to what each of us wants the other to teach about us, we can learn what is most important and meaningful in another person's religion. Come listen, come share!
$10 per person $25 per entire family ($5 deduction with your IJCU program discount coupon)
(the cost for the children's program and/or childcare is included in the family fee)
