Speaking Out for Peace in the Middle East
Israel has just rejected a United Nations Security Council cease-fire resolution, opting instead to continue its invasion in the Gaza Strip. At least 792 Palestinians, including more than 300 women and children, have been killed according to the UN since the Israeli air strikes began two weeks ago. Thirteen Israelis have also been killed.
According to former US President Jimmy Carter "the devastating invasion of Gaza by Israel could easily have been avoided."
According to Jewish Voice for Peace: "President Bush's FY2009 budget request for $2.55 billion in military aid for Israel,
a proposed increase of 9% over actual spending in 2007... is the first installment of a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) signed by the United States and Israel in August
2007 to increase military aid to Israel by 25%, totaling $30 billion over the next decade."
The following events have been organized in response to this crisis and in the hope that peace can and will be achieved.
