Salaam Alaikum/Peace be with you,

Good news for all the students out there: The deadline to apply for our $4,000 UMF Scholarship has been extended!  Applications for the scholarship, which is open to High School Seniors or University Students who are UMF Members, must be postmarked by no later than July 31st.

Speaking of school, summer vacation is quickly drawing to an end.  If you, like me, are searching for a great way to spend your last few weeks in the great outdoors, look no farther than UMF's own Fair for Care!

Set to occur on August 16 at Lone Lane Park in PA, our 3rd Annual Fair for Care will be featuring fresh food, carnival games, a moonbounce, 22' high slides, and an obstacle course... and its all open to the public!  The intent of this event is to raise money for the Afghanistan water project while promoting unity amongst Muslims and educating others about Islam.

Lastly, don't forget to take a look at our online calendar and to add some of your own events!  Doing so will allow others to see them and attend as well.

Peace,
Fatema Kermalli, Secretary
Weigh in Against Hunger

The Interfaith in Actgion Committee of the Lehigh County Conference of Churches is asking communities of faith to Weigh in Against Hunger through an action program meant to energize congregations to help provide food for the hungry.

The program is a 6 month action campaign for the entire community to contribute 1/10 of their weight in food or cash to local emergency food pantries, soup kitchens or the Second Harvest Food Bank.  Communities are also asked to highlight the issues of hunger at their services the weekend of June 27-29.

Congregations are asked to E.A.T.:
- Educate the community about the hungry and their needs
- Act: Collect and deliver food and other items to the needy
- Tell the Conference of Churches the weight of your donations

Participating communities are asked to notify the group by emailing Rev. Debra Hepburn at dhepburn@lcconfchurch.org.

"And what will make you know what the uphill road is?  The setting free of a slave, or the giving of food in a day of hunger..."  Holy Quran, 90:12-14

Westminster Care

On Saturday, June 21, UMF volunteers went to Westminster Care of Orlando to spend time with the seniors and disabled children who live there.

The volunteers visited and danced with the Alzheimer patients and arm wrestled some of the residents.  They were also able to take the children in the hospital for a wheel chair walk and read stories to them.

The event was fun, and brought a smile to both residents and volunteers alike.
Ice Cream Social

On Saturday, July 12th, UMF volunteers went to the 2nd Annual Kids House Ice Cream Social in Orlando, Florida.  There, they cheered up victims of abuse by setting up activities, games, crafts, and delicious ice cream for the kids to enjoy.

Alhamdulillah, a wonderful group of about twenty UMF volunteers attended, and the event was a great success.  Even the rain couldn't dampen everyone's spirits!  The activities were quickly sorted out and the event continued as planned, with the children and volunteers both enjoying the day.
