Salaam Alaikum/Peace be with you,
I
am excited to be at the helm again as UMF takes off into its fifth
year of operations. We have some wonderful ideas for the coming months... and some great people taking the lead! I am pleased to introduce three new officers who have joined UMF's action team: Br. Sibtain Yusufali as Treasurer,
Br. Zohaad Merchant as our Florida Events Coordinator, and Sr. Zainab Somji
as Correspondence Officer, all of whom are already hard at work planning new events and taking care of business. Two upcoming events that are perfect for families include volunteering to cheer up the elderly on June 21st at Westminster Care, and to help with the Ice Cream Social on July 12th at Kids House of Seminole County. Both are great opportunities to give back to your community, get a head start on community service hours, and meet up with others who are planning to attend. Don't forget that all the hours you put in volunteering with us are
valid toward UMF's Annual Scholarship as well - the deadline
for which is fast approaching! Be sure to read through the rest of our newsletter for even more exciting opportunities and updates. We look
forward to seeing you at one of our events insha'Allah real soon! Peace, Masuma Virji, Executive Director

Donations for China, Update on Myanmar

United
Muslim Foundation would like to thank our generous donors and
contributors for helping us raise the $3,675 for Myanmar which has already
been sent to Islamic Relief.
But there are still more people in need. On May 12th, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck China's south-western region, leaving around
55,000 confirmed dead and approximately 281,000 injured. In
some areas as many as 80 percent of homes have been destroyed. Tents
and makeshift shelters cover every available stretch of land.
Islamic Relief is now on the ground and has allocated an initial £20,000 to cover immediate
needs, which include food, water, clothing, shelter and medical
care. China has appealed for international aid. We need your help. Click here to donate online, or send your tax deductible check marked for China to United Muslim Foundation, P.O. Box 952934,
Lake Mary, FL 32795-2934. Your donation will certainly make a
difference.

Girls' Night Update

The 5th
Allentown's Girls' Night program featured a Quranic theme. Muslim
girls of the area introduced themselves through their favorite surah,
played "Nasheedical Chairs" while answering Quran trivia questions to
stay in the game, and also explained Quranic ayaat as they pertained to
their lives. Sharing views gave insight to all those who attended.
In short, the girls were able to interact through the various
activities while learning and having lots of fun!
