United Muslim Foundation August 2007, Rajab 1428 |
Salaam Alaikum, Peace be with you.
It's been a very exciting summer at UMF, by the Grace of Allah. It is hard to tell if the Christian/Muslim Interfaith at the HIC and UMF's ongoing Girls Night Out held at SIJPA were the highlights of July, or if it was seeing volunteers of all ages from children as young as 5 years old helping at Kids House for Abused Children, and the unity in faith of Muslims helping out and attending the Masjid Salaam Carnival to make it a true success despite the rain, that was the spotlight of July.
In addition to all that is apparent at UMF with the events we set up and take part in, we are constantly flooded with inquiries from prisoners needing literature and prayer mats, to those wishing to get married and need nikah services, and on various issues such as making statements to the press, salaat times and mosques, to forming alliances with different Muslim and non-profit organizations that share our commitment to promote unity, education and charity from all over the world.
UMF has grown by leaps and bounds over the last 4 years and we have only Allah to thank for our success. We strive to do His work alone and for His pleasure only. However, we need your prayers and help to make it all happen. As Allah, All Praise be to Him says in the Holy Koran, Chapter 47, Verse 7: " O ye who believe! If ye will aid (the cause of) God, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly." Please help us in our collection for local foster children as you begin your school suppy and wardrobe shopping. And don't forget about UMF's exciting new Arabic after school program for children, all the details of which you can find in this newsletter. Post 9/11, we have a long way to go to help clarify misconceptions and biases people have against Muslims - mostly because of ignorance and media spin. What better way than to reach out to our neighbors and those less fortunate within the communities in which we live, to show them the true spirit of Islam in action. Let's work together to help make a difference one small step at a time.
Sincerely, Masuma Virji - Executive Director. |
UMF Muslim/Christian Interfaith

On July 19th, UMF and HIC co-hosted a Christian/Muslim youth interfaith which was attended by more than 65 people. After sharing beliefs with each other and drawing on the many things Islam and Christianity have in common, youths enjoyed table tennis, henna application, mosaics, making momentos of the event and delicious food and comraderie. The event ended with the special Muslim Friday sermon and congregational prayer.
Everyone learned a great deal from each other and from our guest speakers Dr. Mehdi And Mr. Hazari, and left with new friendships and a feeling of peace and understanding.

Girls Night
On July 20th, Muslim girls of the community enjoyed a fun-filled night at the Al-Ahad Islamic Center in Allentown, PA, while getting to know each other through various games and activities. In conjunction to the theme of health and beauty, representatives from the Arbonne Skin and Body Care line-Sisters Maureen, Samina, and Salima-impressed the girls with results obtained from using Arbonne's invigorating sea salt scrub, and also gave the girls an opportunity to relax while enjoying a calming foot soak. Sister Sajida Bhallo also impressed the girls, through her knowledge and demonstrations of the basics behind the art of reiki.
Besides these two workshops, the girls also interacted through games and food. The food consisted of a healthy menu of a choice between tuna or egg sandwich; a variety of fruits including, cantaloupe, watermelon, apples, pears, and grapes; and strawberry fruit smoothies for drinks. The games did not only allow the girls to get to know each other better, but also to understand the importance and merits of eating various fruits. In the end, the girls were very satisfied with what they had learned and the friendships they had formed. |
