Shias and Sunnis United in the USA - Call for Unity in Iraq

In Huntsville Alabama, devout Muslims work to explain that Prophet Mohammed (SAW) delivered a message and example of mercy to enemies and respect for women, and that both Sunni and Shia Muslims who follow the teachings of the Qur’an do the same. Seyed Mohammed Razavi, a Shi’ite religious leader from London helped lead Eidul Fitr services and members of Huntsville’s three mosques: The Sunni Islamic Center, The Shia Alzahra Center and the Muslim American Masjid Tauhid came together to celebrate Eid together. That is the Unity which embodies the true spirit of Islam and not the sectarian fighting in Iraq or other countries. “Whoever believes in one God and that Mohammed (PBUH) is the last messenger from God is a Muslim” Razavi says, “The rest of the differences are not major”.

For Shi'as in Iraq and elsewhere, the attack on the holy shrines of Imam Al Hadi and Imam Al Askari represents an attack on important values and beliefs. The terrorists who perpetrated this and other acts of violence have unjustly targeted the Shia community based on an extreme distortion of the tenets of Islam. The action and reaction as a result have perpetuated a cycle of violence between Sunnis and Shi'as that is a clear deviation from the tenets of Islam, which upholds the sanctity of life and forbids crimes against humanity. The United Muslim Foundation stands strong alongside these and many other Muslim Organizations in the effort to end violence and terrorism and to promote greater tolerance, understanding and unity among Muslims:

    • Imam Mehdi Association of Marjaeya (the liaison office in North America of Ayatullah Seestani)
    • Islamic Educational Center of Orange County, CA (Director Sayed Moustafa Al-Qazwini)
    • Qunoot Foundation (Executive Director Zahir Janmohamed)
    • Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC)
    • Fiqh Council of America
    • As Saadiq Foundation
    • Masjid Ahlul-Beit

Celebrating the Life of Our Holy prophet

The last few weeks have brought sad and disturbing news of the burning of churches and more deaths in Turkey and Nigeria in connection to the ongoing controversy about offensive cartoons about Prophet Muhammad first published in a Danish newspaper. Peace and blessings be upon the Prophet. Love of the Prophet must always reflect how merciful and forgiving he was. While we condemn these cartoons and the violent reactions to it, we must help to educate those who are ignorant about his noble and righteous character and the truth he stood for. It is to this end that UMF has embarked upon several projects aimed at Clarifying Misconceptions with which we need YOUR help.

The United Muslim Foundation is constantly trying to propagate information to help educate and clarify misconceptions in an effort to get across the peaceful message of Islam sent through our Holy Prophet (PBUH).
