November 2005 United Muslim Foundation Newsletter
Eid Mubarak
Salamun Alaikum.
This newsletter brings you wishes of a joyous Eid-ul- Fitr from all of us here at the United Muslim Foundation.

Alhamdulil-Lah, Ramadhan has been a busy month filled with activities working together in a spirit of unity to help clarify misconceptions about Islam and helping the needy. May Allah (SWT) accept our endeavours to serve Him always and may He help us to continue through the rest of the year in a spirit of brotherhood and compassion. Ameen.

We really appreciate your monthly donations to UMF. With your help, we have been distributing thousands of Korans worldwide. We have provided Muslims in need with assistance. UMF recently fed 400 elderly seniors through the Meals on Wheels program. We’ve raised money and donations for hurricane victims, the poor in India, and people affected by the earthquake in Pakistan. UMF is assisting Muslim refugees from other countries who are settling in the USA. And perhaps one of the most important things we do is serve 8 million Muslims in our country by clearing misconceptions about Islam and demonstrating the compassion that our religion requires of us.

Our sincere thanks to all the generous donors for helping make our work possible. With your support, we are making a difference and even inspiring other Muslims to do more. Visit our website at www. unitedmuslimfoundation.org to sign up to become a member or to donate monthly. Together we can achieve the extraordinary!

We appreciate you forwarding this message to your friends and family by clicking on the blue link at the bottom left of the newsletter where you can also find our contact information. Jazak-Allahu Khairan.

Ramadhan Soup Kitchen Report

United Muslim Foundation volunteers wanted to go beyond just feeling the hunger this Ramadhan to actually helping the hungry. A group set out early Friday morning on October 14th to help prepare, pack and deliver food sponsored by UMF for about 400 needy people.

One volunteer said: “We prepared food for the hurricane victims, for the ailing elderly and the needy. It was a really good experience and we learned a lot.”

Clarifying Misconceptions during the month of Ramadhan

UMF created an information kit this Ramadhan which included among other things a packet of information on Ramadhan and Eid and a copy of UMF’s publication of Mir Ahmed Ali’s ‘The Koran Interpreted’. These were distributed to local Orlando schools for their libraries. “They were really excited" said one volunteer who took the kit as a gift package to the school and presented it to them.

UMF also arranged for presentations on Ramadhan and Eid at a local school in Orlando. Children watched a video aimed at informing them about Islam, got to hear about what it’s like to fast from fellow students and even went home with a Ramadhan craft they made together in class, some perfume (attar) they put on, additional coloring sheets on Ramadhan and Eid and a Ramadhan balloon. One volunteer said “A parent came up to me and thanked me greatly for coming into the classroom to teach their child about our culture and for doing the craft with them. They really had a great time.”

The highlight event however was our visit to a church in Orlando. After a UMF Powerpoint Presentation on Discovering Islam, volunteers answered the congregation’s questions and talked with them on issues needing further clarification. It was a fun experience and we met many wonderful people and together began to build a bridge of peace and understanding between our faiths.

UMF Memory Walk and Nursing Home Report

Dedicated UMF volunteers braved the pouring rain on October 8th at Trexler Park to help raise money for people with Alzheimer’s disease. Jazak-Allahu Khairan for your dedication and to all of our supporters who helped UMF surpass our fundraising goal.

Our Senior Sister in a Nursing Home in Central FL. was very pleased to have a number of visitors from ages 2-50 come to spend time with her and bring her delicious home cooked food. Please contact us if you would like to join UMF's caring volunteers on our next visit.

UMF Member Appreciation Dinner Report

United Muslim Foundation held it’s annual Member Appreciation Dinner in Orlando and Allentown again this year. Members and their families enjoyed delicious Arabic cuisine as they reviewed another year of action and planned for more exciting future events.

Everyone left with a feeling of satisfaction, being part of a team that has made great accomplishments in the last 2 years; a team that draws on the unity of all Muslims to do more to help serve humanity and clarify misconceptions about Islam.
