"Living for Today - and Tomorrow"
Your Success Thought for the Week of April 12, 2006

Most of us have experienced one or more of life’s challenges - perhaps even tragedies. An important choice is placed before us shortly after this occurrence: "How do I handle it? Do I hold on to this as a part of my persona for life? Or, do I learn from it and let go?"

One of the first things I look for in a new client is evidence of what they allow into their persona. Are they holding on to statements or old tapes from their past, thus impeding today's growth and success? Or are they fine tuning themselves with each new 'lesson learned?'

Following are examples of old tapes that will most assuredly halt your success:

My divorce robbed me of any ability to trust.
You can learn to trust at any age and in any circumstance. Learn what went wrong with your marriage; let go; get out there and live your life! Surround yourself with individuals who also want to move forward. Not everyone who’s been divorced is of that non-trusting mindset.

Back when I started this company fifteen years ago, things were different.
Yes, as with any progressive company, things have hopefully changed. Holding on to the way things were is far from complimentary to your image. Is this how you want to be seen? Or do you want to be seen as a team player who contributes to and inspires change. Enjoy the opportunities these changes provide to you today.

That’s the way I’ve always been. Even in high school I couldn’t __________. (Fill in the blank)
You’re not in high school any more. Then, you were a teen in need of guidance and support. Now, you are an adult forging your own way. Look forward, not back. Allow your future to be far brighter than your limiting memories of how you were in the past. Today, you have resources to help you do many things you weren’t able to accomplish last year, last decade.

Ever since being diagnosed with a life- threatening disease, I am certain it will reappear.
There is no question that such a diagnosis is a shock to your system. All you have to do is pick up a book by Christiane Northrup, Mona Lisa Shultz, Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay or Deepak Chopra to discover that there is great learning in anything that your body endures. Be a poster child for whatever ailed you. This is part of your life learning. Then, you can teach others.

I was fired from a job. Everything was taken away from me.
Many of the most successful, self confident, inspiring individuals I know have been fired from a job. This turning point in their lives forced them to see their own greatness as no other stimulant would have. They now look back at the day of firing as one of the best occurrences in their professional world.

Client ‘S’ has been guilty of all of the above proclamations. In highlighting each statement individually, he saw how untrue and self-sabotaging they were.

Today, ‘S’ only utters statements that serve to move him forward in the direction of his deepest desires. His written communication follows suit. He’s been promoted twice since this discovery, has taken complete responsibility for his health, and has in fact learned to trust enough to be engaged to the ‘most wonderful woman on earth.’

What limiting tapes do you play in your mind? How do these appear in your verbal communication? Unless someone points these out to us, we often don’t hear them on our own. Ask for and listen to feedback.

Enjoy your discoveries and have a grand week!
