Your Success Thought on "Aloha"
October 26, 2005

In a few short hours, I’ll board a plane bound for one of my favorite destinations, the Island of Oahu. Aside from the gorgeous sunshine, banyan trees, fine white sand, roaring ocean waves and amazing North Shore surfers, I love the culture of Hawaii.

In the Hawaiian language there is no word for ‘I’, only ‘we’. They are connected to everything— nature, the earth, each other. Even rocks are alive in Hawaii.

I especially appreciate the concept of ‘aloha’, which is love for all things, respect and honor. It is the spirit of the islands that you can feel if you close your eyes long enough and forget about the touristy stuff.

The Aloha Spirit Law is an actual law “on the books” in Hawaii and acknowledges that The Aloha Spirit "was the working philosophy of native Hawaiians and was presented as a gift to the people of Hawaii."

The Aloha Spirit is the coordination of the True Self's mind, heart and soul, manifested by thinking good thoughts, emoting good feelings, and sharing goodness with others.

The Aloha Spirit elevates and empowers its people, and keeps Hawaii the unique place that it is. The Aloha Spirit Law deserves our unmitigated support and compliance. As a model law for the world, it can serve the greatest number for its greatest good.

The Aloha Spirit is the coordination of mind and heart within each person. It brings each person to Self. Each person must emote good feelings to others. In the contemplation and presence of the life force, Aloha, the following translation may be used:

  • Kindness, to be expressed with tenderness
  • Unity, to be expressed with harmony
  • Agreement, to be expressed with plesantness
  • Humility, to be expressed with modesty
  • Patience, to be expressed with perseverance

These are traits of character that express the charm, warmth and sincerity of Hawaii's people. It was the working philosophy of native Hawaiians and was presented as a gift to the people of Hawaii. Aloha is the relationship of reciprocity.

This week, no matter where you are or what challenges face you, I challenge you to live in the spirit of aloha. Love, honor and respect yourself. Give those you would normally merely walk by this gift from your heart. See how this opens up not only your heart but your world to new possibilities.

Enjoy your discoveries in creating much Aloha this week.
