The Rhode Island arts community mourns the passing of State Representative Paul W. Crowley. |
On behalf of the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and the entire arts community of our state, we express our sadness at the loss of Paul W. Crowley, state representative from Newport, a good friend of the Rhode Island arts community. Rep. Crowley died this morning after an illness.
Rep. Crowley was a strong supporter of the arts throughout his legislative career. He understood how the arts contribute to the economy of our state. As chair of the Newport County Convention and Visitors Bureau and a leader in travel and tourism in our state, he saw firsthand how the arts and culture attract visitors. As Deputy Chair of the House Finance Committee and an acknowledged leader in education policy and reform, he knew the value of the arts in the education of all Rhode Island students.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to Rep. Crowley's family, friends and colleagues. |
