newslogo - new
Greetings!
Welcome to our September edition, and the start of another exciting arts season here in Rhode Island!  There's lots of interesting news in this month's newsletter, including a look at RISCA's new logo, which will be formally unveiled on October 1st (see the story below... or actually, sorta to the right).  Learn about the new Arts Lottery scratch ticket, which will also be unveiled on October 1st, and our upcoming application deadline -- also, coincidentally, on October 1st.  (That should be quite a day for us).  Also learn about a new public art project for Rhode Island College.  And rejoice that Fall, a beautiful time of year in New England, is practically here!

And, speaking of October 1st, it is also the deadline for our second cycle of grant applications.  We'll be accepting applications for project grants from individuals, organizations and schools, and fellowship applications in several different arts disciplines.  For further information be sure to visit our website or contact a member of the RISCA staff (just so you know, that's a picture of Dan Kahn, our Education Program assistant, at a recent RISCA grants workshop).

Art is the Anchor
New RISCA logo
Join RISCA in celebrating our new logo, our first redesign in over twenty years!

Our new logo, based upon the elemental Rhode Island image of an anchor (a component of our state seal and our state flag) conveys more than just a sense of place.  An anchor denotes something strong and steady, a foundation that holds everything else together.  That is our impression of the role the arts play in our state.  Art IS the anchor for Rhode Island.

Our thanks to Tom Roskelly of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, the designer of the new RISCA logo.  Tom tells us that the new RISCA logo has recently won a prestigious 2007 American Graphic Design Award!

We'll be promoting this new logo at our October 1st unveiling of the new Arts Lottery ticket (see story to the left), so be sure to attend.
