Greetings!

Did you watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics? I missed the beginning, but the parts I saw were amazing. And the photos I've seen made be even more sorry I missed them. How did they do this??   Kudos to China and their design aesthetic. But, strict adherence to a specific "look" can sometimes lead us astray - as evidenced by the organizers decision to use a "prettier" little girl (on left)  as the face of this (on right) cute little girls' angelic voice. What??? The little singer - Yang Peiy - is cute as a button and audiences would have loved her just as much as the girl on the right.  While the organizers claim it gave two girls a big opportunity,  it was ultimately insulting to both and a big disappointment to all.

Onto happier things... I have some big changes coming to my blogs which I'm really excited about! I am going to be taking on a series of contributing bloggers who will be covering everything from antiques and vintage finds to how to get a high end look for less to coverage of some of the biggest design shows in the US and Europe.  I put out a call for design enthusiasts who might wish to do a little blogging and was thrilled with the response I got from some incredibly knowledgeable and successful designers, writers and trade professionals. I can't wait to start announcing my new contributors!

If you or someone you knows would like to reach out to over 20,000 monthly readers - from design enthusiasts to professional designers and the media - let me know.  I offer sponsorship placement on my blogs and newsletter. If you run an online business or service - it could be right for you!

Cheers!

Have you seen Mamma Mia?
Movie set decor

I was never an ABBA fan, but I just loved this movie! I grinned from ear to ear (when I wasn't getting emotional) from start to finish. It was fun, warm hearted and a visual feast for the eyes.

DIY: Wall Tile Art Project
A little paper, a little glue...

I was feeling crafty this month and saw this project online and thought it was perfect. I had a bare wall in my dining room that needed something unique and this was not only unique, but easy and fairly quick!

I was also flattered to have this project picked up by Craft Magazines' website as a DIY pick on the day!

The legendary Trianon Palace hotel and spa in Versailles, France where the likes of Marcel Proust , René Lacoste and the Duke of Winsor once frolicked has just completed a breathtaking $30 million renovation. Situated just outside Paris less than a mile from Louis XIV's famed Chateau de Versailles, the 5-star luxury hotel's upgrades include a new wing, Gordon Ramey's first restaurant in France, a refurbished Guerlain spa, revamped public spaces and glorious gardens. Noted interior designer Fiona Thompson, who oversaw renovations to the 199-room property, has managed to modernize the 1909 building without detracting from its historic magnificence.
