 Greetings!
I hope you had a festive Fourth of July - and if you're lucky enough to be in France - Happy Bastille Day!
Call me a downer - but by this time in the summer - I'm pretty ready for Fall. The weather here in New England has been fantastic, no question. But, once the 4th has passed, it feels pretty anti-climactic.
If you're in the Boston/Cape Cod area - check out the South Shore Conservatory's Summer Evening Under the Stars and Duxbury Music Festival offerings. I attended a fabulous outdoor orchestra concert last evening in Hingham. And over the course of the next few of weeks, they will be featuring some of the hottest young classical and pop talents around. Last evening's concert featured pianist Shijun Wang who was the winner of last summers' DMF solost competition. He performed an amazing Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto that really brought down the house. And speaking of house - Ball in the House - a Boston area acappella group will be performing next week under the stars. If your tastes run to opera, my friend Beth MacLeod - director of the SSC's Opera By The Bay - will be presenting Die Fledermaus. Beth, a Mezzo Soprano will be performing the "pants" role of Count Orlovsky. She was Carmen last summer - quite a range! And, to end the summer - Livingston Taylor will be performing! A little something for everone, no question about it! Oh ok - summer can be good!
But, while you're enjoying yourself - don't forget that if you are thinking of having any work done on your home for the holidays - you will need to get started by the beginning of September in order to be assured of having deliveries and installations done in time!
Cheers!
Linda

Media Talk: Are White Kitchens In or Out?

I was recently interviewed for an article on the topic of the white
kitchen - was it in or out? The journalist, Pat Curry, had spoken with
a few designers before me who were of the belief that the white kitchen
was passé. Hmm... Read on...

PalacePapers
Fantastic handmade wallpapers

I received this eye catching postcard in the mail recently from palacepapers,
owned by Massachusetts native Casey Gunschel. "Dedicated to traditional
craft, Palacepapers patterns are hand silk screened by skilled artisans
on a variety of natural fibers and papers. Inspired by a collective
fascination with the natural environment, fable illustrations and
antique maps, each Palacepapers hand-drawn design lends an original and
sophisticated approach to wallpaper and textiles." Read on....

A Tale of Two Bachelors
Josh Groban vs. Lance Armstrong

Recently, Josh Groban's LA home was profiled in In Style Magazine and
Lance Armstrong's was profiled in Architectural Digest. Clearly, the
two men are in different stages in their personal and professional
lives. Josh's is fun - yet still very youthful while Lance's home is a
showplace. Read on...

Save The Mount
Edith Wharton's Berkshire home is threatened with foreclosure.
Edith Wharton - the Godmother of interior decoration (Decoration of Houses
) and the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize - built "The Mount" in
the Berkshires in 1902. At the time, she was assuredly one of the first
women to build her own home.

Design Star 3 on HGTV

Design Star season 3 is currently airing on HGTV and I've been covering this reality design show. The winner gets their own television interior design show. So, the winner should have both design skills as well as on-air talent. The season 1 winner, David Bromstad, has pretty good design skills, but his on-air personality is pretty weak. Season 2 winner Kim Myles has a winning on-air personality, but her design skills are pretty weak. Hopefully, the season 3 winner will have a combination of both!
