Greetings!
I can't recall a more dynamic time at Back Room Wines. With the most intriguing and eclectic wine selection in our 8 year history, irresistible Tasting Events that both entertain and educate, and a Wine Bar that brings quality and value to our guests seven days a week, it's a blast for me and Joe to come to work and think of what we can do differently today. And better.
We're lucky to have customers (like you) who appreciate what we do. Unique wines. Big selection. Fine values. Recommendations based on what you like. Excellent, professional service. A memorable Wine Bar "experience." Count on all these qualities at Back Room Wines when you read, call, email and visit.
Today, check out a Sonoma Coast Syrah that we've recommended to guests looking for the perfect wine to take to our favorite local restaurants. Bodega Rancho "Que Syrah" Syrah 2007, $36/bottle. 279 cases made. Read about it, and what to eat with it, below.
TASTING EVENTS! So much good stuff coming up. M PARTY this Friday Night, August 27 Ukulele Concert and Party on Friday, September 10 are of particular note. More below.

BODEGA RANCHO Syrah "Que Syrah Vineyard" Sonoma Coast 2007 $36/bottle
Brothers Kurt and Derek Beitler started Bodega Rancho with this, the 2007 vintage. Kurt is the winemaker, and Derek handles the sales. Their mission is to make benchmark cool-climate California Syrah that's as good as any made by their esteemed colleagues (think Failla, Arnot Roberts, Copain, Wind Gap and Keplinger) The two acres that are "Que Syrah" lie very close to the Pacific...may well be the coolest Syrah vineyard in California.
We really like this wine, and when we poured it at last Friday's "First Release" tasting, our guests liked it too. A lot. Nose is Moroccan spice, smoke, olive, red berries and lavender. Taste more of the same, plus red currants, tobacco and bacon. Fans of killer Northern Rhone Syrah should not miss this. The ripeness, acidity, fruit/spice flavors and structure are eerily similar. Mighty fine with food, but doesn't require food to be delicious. One of my wine mentors, years ago, would say "when a wine needs food to taste good, that means it's a bad wine by itself. Who wants that?"
We hear winemakers and wine merchants alike lament the sale-ability of Syrah. It's true that Syrah sales can't pay the rent here. That said, the best ones, like Bodega Rancho "Que Syrah" are unlike any wines made in California, and the flavors match so many foods we like to eat: tomato sauces, peppery lettuces, pungent garlic and onions, briny black olives, grilled meats, braises, stews, rosemary, thyme, black pepper. It's versatility makes it my #1 recommendation for customers looking for a bottle to take to a local restaurant. In fact, I took it to Oenotri just last night (a great restaurant, by the way) and it was outstanding. A wine like this belongs in your wine collection, provided glorious food & wine pairing "experiences" turn you on. Check it out. Only 12 barrels, 279 cases, made.

Meatballs and Ukuleles
Give it a week, then Google "Meatballs and Ukuleles" and I bet BRW is at the top. We'll have that going for us. Which is nice.
This Friday's "M PARTY" features wines that start with the Letter M. Who are these creatures?
 | The variety, place or winery works: Muscadet, Malbec, Macon, Mollydooker (Shiraz), Milliere (Chateauneuf) and Miller (Napa Valley Port...served with M&Ms) For M Vittles (included in your tasting), Joe and I are having a MEATBALL SMACKDOWN. We're both making a batch. Who makes a meaner meatball? It's an exhibition, not a competition, so we're not taking votes. We're all winners!
$15/tasting, and folks whose first or last name start with the letter M are half price! ("What about first and last names both starting with M? Free?" you ask? Nice try, but regrets.) M PARTY is this Friday, August 27. Come anytime from 5 to 8 P.M. MORE DETAILS
UKULELE CONCERT AND PARTY on Friday, September 10 In conjunction with the Wine Country Ukulele Festival, Ukulele artist Gerald Ross of Ann Arbor, Michigan, will play a mix of Hawaiian, swing, blues, Tin Pan Alley and more American music genres. Gerald will play at Back Room Wines from 6 to 8 P.M.
Around the corner, at The Napa Valley Opera House, The Wine Country Ukulele Festival presents Ukulele virtuoso James Hill at 8 P.M. Tickets are $25, and are available at the Napa Valley Opera House. Come to Back Room Wines for a wine tasting, or try one of our Island-Inspired Wine Cocktail drinks, before the James Hill concert. Show your ticket and get a $5 credit toward your libation of choice.
Or just come to Back Room Wines for Gerald Ross and a great time. Island snacks included. Come as early as 5 PM for an island drink, tasting, or a bottle Show starts at 6. We're really looking forward to this, and hope you can come enjoy it too! MORE INFORMATION HERE.
This Thursday (tomorrow) night, 5 to 8 P.M. is Memorable Wine Night The memorable wines, RADIKON "Oslavje" 2004, $50/500 ML bottle. and GILLES ROBIN Crozes-Hermitage "1920" 2005, $60. Just $10 to enjoy these two very cool, and perhaps memorable, wines. Betcha there will be another fine wine, or two, to check out as well.
