Greetings!
Memorial Day is behind us (or 362 days in front of us), which means it's unofficialy summertime. Unofficial summertime means OFFICIAL yummy white wine drinking time. Today I present two white wines: a brand new, first release Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc and a Sonoma County Chardonnay with perhaps a familiar name to you. As I always suggest you mix up the types of wines you drink, today's featured whites are very different from each other. They're equally good for different reasons. This is one of the gifts that fine wine brings to our tables.
A heapin' helpin' of June Tasting Events coming up. SUPER SPECIAL EVENT Tomorrow (Friday) night, June 4, from 5 to 8 P.M. Money Wines June 3, 2010
Money Wine: a wine that anyone who loves good, rich, utterly delicious wine will enjoy A LOT, and is an EXCEPTIONAL VALUE. TODAY Memorial Day has passed us by. That means we think more about white wines for the summer. I got two delicious, tiny production wines for you today. A Napa Sauv Blanc and a Sonoma Chard. And both under $30!
REMRIDGRemridge trademarked the CA license plate image! | Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2009 $27/bottle Remridg Owner & Winemaker Jeff Roberts and I first met when we were on the opening crew of Rutherford Grill in 1994. Neither of us lasted long there as we both pursued our wine careers after a few memorable months there. Jeff got into vineyard work and was Duckhorn's vineyard manager for a long time. He and his wife now have their own vineyard management company, and started their own label: REMRIDG. REMRIDGE (short for REMington RIDGe) Sauvignon Blanc 2009 comes from vineyards up and down the Valley floor that Jeff manages. Back Room Wines is the Customer #1 for Remridg not because Jeff and I are friends, but because it's delicious, undiscovered and you will enjoy drinking it. The rich, aromatic Remridge Sauvignon Blanc smells of honeysuckle and orange blossoms, pineapple and
grapefruit, just-made applesauce and ripe, juicy pears. The flavors continue on like the smells. Creamy
texture, full mouthfeel and good acidity to give it the perfect Sauvignon Blanc tang. Can't help but think back to our old Rutherford Grill days for food suggestions. Artichoke Dip, and keep the tortilla chips coming. Rotisserie Chicken, redolent of herbs and garlic. About 500
cases made. Buy Remridg Sauvignon Blanc here.
MALDONADO Chardonnay "Parr Vineyard" Sonoma County 2007 $26/bottle Like Jeff of Remridg, Lupe Maldonado also owns a vineyard management company in Napa Valley. His home vineyard, "Los Olivos," is at the edge of the Carneros AVA and producers a bold, serious Chardonnay that we have sold for many years at $48/bottle. Today's Money Wine is Chardonnay from Sonoma's "Parr Vineyard." It is a classic, rich, buttery, yummy Chardonnay. Crazy-good value, too. Smell spicy poached pears, brown butter and grilled figs. Taste is more
of the same: rich, toasty and unctuous. Drink with buttery shrimp,
crab and lobster. Anything with garlic mashed potatoes would certainly fit the bill here, especially pork roast or roast chicken (chicken two times today-how boring of me). Buy Maldonado Chardonnay "Parr" here.
Money White Wine Case 6 bottles each of Remridg and Maldonado "Parr" $286 (includes 10% case discount)
Money White Half Case 3 bottles of each $150 (5% discount)

Midwest Breakfast Showdown
| Did you see this story in the Wall Street Journal yesterday? Pancake Man and Waffleman, Nebraska's breakfast catering kings!
What do you prefer, a good pancake or a waffle? I know it depends on many factors (thick or thin, syrup or fruit, buttermilk...), but flat out, what do you prefer?
I'll get the ball rolling. Would take away a bit of my soul, but I would choose. Waffle.
Drink more chocolate milk. Dan
