Green & Red Zinfandel
2007 "Chiles Mill" just released, and we love it

May 5, 2010
Greetings!
I'll break my rule re. not telling you what I'm eating in honor of Cinco de Mayo. Our local Mexican market is called Zapata (it's on Imola, east of Soscol if you're local). Best Ham & Egg Breakfast Burrito on the planet, not to mention it's big enough to satisfy an NFL linebacker. It could feed me for breakfast, lunch AND dinner. Tasty enough too. No wine match though, nor a margarita. Just a big glass of water. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

The "Green Bag" program is off to a flying start.

In case you missed last week's email,
Back Room Wines now has eco-friendy, reusable
,Mark Herold
six-bottle bags. Yes indeed: good for the environment. And so sharp looking! On Day One, Mark Herold (winemaker and customer) came in and was our first donor. Looks like it's a 50 cent donation to the
Napa Land Trust (he bought a case). Way to go Mark!

Details:
1. Your first Back Room Wine bag is free with 6 bottle purchase.
2. Bring back your bag, purchase at least 3 bottles, and choose which of our selected charities you wish to donate 25 cents.
3. Choose between our three beneficiaries:
We'll love to see your Back Room Wine bag, but any reusable bag or box, with purchase of at least 3 bottles, will do. CASE PURCHASES (12 bottles) that leave in reusable bags or boxes (case box from our stash qualifies) garner a 50 cent donation!

As mail order is a big part of our business, friends and customers around the country: when you buy a case of Back Room Wine, ask for a Green Bag and we'll include it with your wine.

Money Wine
May 5, 2010

Money Wine: a wine that anyone who loves good, rich, utterly delicious wine will enjoy A LOT, and is an EXCEPTIONAL VALUE.
From one of our favorite Napa wineries...

GREEN & RED ZinfandelGreen & Red Zinfandel
"Chiles Mill Vineyard"
Napa Valley 2007  $26

It's unusual that a winery with over 30 vintages under its belt keeps the interest of Back Room customers. For the most part, newer is better in our wine selections. But Green & Red bucks that trend right over the fence.
Jay and Pam Heminway planted the vineyard in 1972 in the GREEN serpentine and RED iron-heavy soils of Chiles Valley, a few miles east of the Valley floor.
Over the years, they've planted more vines near their home & winery and gotten a little bigger, but they're still small and have kept their passion for making excellent wine. Little known fact: Jay has made the house red wine for the great Berkeley restaurant Chez Panisse for many years.
Always delicious, the exceptional 2007 Zinfandel vintage makes this Green & Red even more so!
We tasted just last week with Pam when she came in to buy wine. We had it on our wine racks two days later.

Smell black cherry preserves sprinkled with cracked black pepper,  red roses, black licorice and sweet spicy oak (just the right amount).
The taste is deep, lusty and perfectly ripe. Has a silky texture like a strong California Pinot Noir. Has sweet sensations and boosting acidity that we want in fine Zinfandel. Food matches are ample. For some reason I just thought of tea-smoked duck with black bean sauce. Jay and Pam recommend rare, wild roast duck. I, like you, eat wild duck every day.

In the words of John Lee Hooker (or George Thorogood),
"One ain't enough Jack, better make it three."

On that guitar riff, we offer you 10% discount on just 3 bottles of Green & Red Zinfandel "Chiles Mill" 2007 through Sunday.
That's $23.40/bottle (our case price).

Not to stop you from buying a case. You'll be happy if you do!
