| Greetings!
I've been to the gastronomic mountaintop and bring you the good news. Ad Hoc, Thomas Keller's Restaurant that serves one meal a night, serves Fried Chicken every other Monday. It's a hot ticket in Napa, as our 9 PM seating suggests. The chicken was amazing...so lightly fried and moist, it's tempura-like yet with all the flavor and crunch of classic fried chicken. Not too fancy. Harkening back to a memorable fried chicken and crisp white wine dinner in Vienna, I brought an Austrian Riesling by Willi Brundlmayer to pair. Mmm, mmmm. Final meal-worthy.
Today's Money Wine, BRIDESMAID White, Napa Valley 2008, makes a fine fried chicken match as well. Check out my tasting notes just below and you'll see what I mean.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday events this week. A new monthly tasting theme starts tomorrow. It's called Two Memorable Wines Night. For $15 we serve two fat pours of really good, rare, usually imported, wine. Burgundy and Northern Rhone are on the playbill tomorrow. See what they are just below, along with our Friday & Saturday events.
Kick 'em when they're up, kick 'em when they're down. Dan

Money Wine March 24, 2010
Money Wine: a wine that anyone who loves good, rich, utterly delicious wine will enjoy A LOT, and is an EXCEPTIONAL VALUE.
Today, an Al Fresco White to match shellfish and fried foods: BRIDESMAID WHITE, Napa Valley 2008 $20 You can bet your intact NCAA Bracket that I'll drink good Sauvignon Blanc 365 days a year. Still, there's something about welcoming spring that makes us all crave cool, refreshing wines just a little bit more. Rosé wines, for example, just started selling again. With the ice melting around much of the country and patio dining a possibility around here (at least in 95% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Semillon
 | the daytime), I present my first featured "al fresco white" in 2010: BRIDESMAID.
This is a blend of 95% Sauvignon Blanc & 5% Semillon. Two Napa Valley vintners, Pam Starr & Drew Neiman, are the producers. No oak applied so the fruit shines. Some lees gives the Bridesmaid its curves. (Lees are the remnants of fermentation. When left in the wine before it's bottled, the lees give wine more richness and creamy texture). It is a crisp, "zingy" wine, full of flavor, and very good with shellfish and fried foods (like the fried chicken I mention above...french fries come to mind as well). My tasting notes sound like a stroll through the produce aisle: tangerines, green apples, pineapples, Meyer lemons, melons and lemongrass. Holly and I took a bottle of Bridesmaid to our favorite Mexican restaurant, Las Palmas, last month. Ceviche and Bridesmaid white was DY-NO-MITE! Read about it here.
Bridesmaid White, Napa Valley 2008, $20/bottle Case price: $216 (10% off).
