Greetings!
Before the big Cabs, how about a white to whet the palate. A new Food & Wine Blog post for you today. To celebrate Daylight Savings Time, and a lovely late-winter day in Napa, I uncovered the gas grill and took stock of our kitchen goodies (at home). There was a bottle of WIND GAP Chardonnay, Sonoma County 2007 looking mighty fine in our refrigerator, and I needed to find it a worthy gustatory partner. The result: Proscuitto-wrapped big prawns, grilled and served with a dab of pear chutney. Easy to make-just don't leave the grill as the prawns will overcook if you're not vigilant. Read my Food & Wine Blog Entry here.
Not one, not two, but THREE Napa Cab "deals" for you today. Before today's Money Wine, here are two local Cabernet Sauvignons that you probably know from my past recommendations if not your purchase and imbibement. ROCKLEDGE Cabernet Sauvignon "The Rocks" St. Helena, Napa Valley 2006, $29/bottle Made by Mike Hirby (Winemaker for REALM and Co-Owner/Winemaker for RELIC), "The Rocks" vineyard is tucked just behind Joseph Phelps winery, not far from Howell Mountain. Mike Hirby style is in full-force here: sweet black cherries and currants, chocolate, toasty, integrated tannins. Case price for "The Rocks" Cab is $312. Order here.
CRAUFORD Cabernet Sauvignon "Tattoo" Napa Valley 2006, $25. Second price-drop for the Crauford "Tattoo" in about a year. Surprising to me as it's so good (to be clear, the winery is dropping their price to me...the lower price is me passing on the savings). The Cab comes from Pope Valley, a remote part of Napa you get to by driving over Howell Mountain. This is solid Cab that has made many folks happy for $35. Dark rich fruits, cinnamon, black pepper, nutmeg, mouth-filling and rich. Smooth tannins, ready to rock. Crauford Cab case price: $270 Order here. Gonna Play In The Sunshine. Dan

Money Wine March 17, 2010
Money Wine: a wine that anyone who loves good, rich, utterly delicious wine will enjoy A LOT, and is an EXCEPTIONAL VALUE.
Today, a Napa Valley Cabernet that we've loved, recommended and sold in the past. Here's the current vintage, just brought in. FOUNTAINHEAD Cabernet Sauvignon"Morisoli-Borges" Napa Valley 2006 $45 Look below for the EMAIL SPECIAL.
First time owner Sam Sharp brought me this wine was late last summer. Solid, but tight. Unusual, considering the (generally) more approachable 2006 vintage and the vineyard location (Valley floor, just west of Highway 29). But wine, in wine-speak, is a living, breathing thing. Sam brought it back last month, and I'm pleased to report that it has awaken from its slumber. The FOUNTAINHEAD 2006 Cabernet has fleshed out and shows the rich, luscious dark fruit flavors that have made it a store favorite since their inaugural, 2002 vintage.
60% new French oak gives a nose of toasted brioche
and light caramel along with cherry preserves and blueberry liqueur. In
the mouth it's a burst of precocious berry & cherry with vanilla
bean and cinnamon edge. Big, delicious Cabernet that I recommend very highly provided you enjoy ample SWEET TOASTY OAK flavors in your big red wines. The Fountainhead has got it! 500+ cases made. And you may have guessed: the name Fountainhead does come from the Ayn Rand book.
Special price on Fountainhead Cabernet 2006: $39/bottle and can discount 10% on a case purchase!

You can't tickle yourself Did you know that? Go ahead, try to tickle yourself under your armpit, then have someone else do the same. Funny, I had no idea. It's a chiropractor/massage therapist trick. (They work over your hand in the ticklish spots). Holly showed me this last week.
Drink more Clare Valley wines. Dan
