| Greetings!
Super Bowl reflections. We started the afternoon with a magnum of Allimant Laugner Brut Rosé Sparkling from Alsace. Could have drunk this all day. The pink color worked nicely with Colts blue as they took an early 10-0 lead. The mag is $45, the 750 ML is $20. Good Valentines Day drink! It was the most watched television show of all-time, eclipsing the last episode of MASH by a few million. Alan Alda has requested a re-count. I made caramel corn for the first time and it is GOOD. Kudos to foodnetwork.com for an excellent and fairly easy recipe. Of course, I made too much and a big bowl greets us at home each night. Holly icksnayed crumbling it over yogurt for a nutritious breakfast. The Who are old. And Daltry's Won't Get Fooled Again scream was recorded. Mercy. Contenders for next year's halftime: Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, Red Hot Chili Peppers...any guesses? Don't you think a reunion of The Brady Six would hit the Super Bowl demographic? Who Dat picked the Saints and the under in last week's email? Me, Dat's Who! Unfortunately, I didn't place a bet. Holly & I did win the 1st Quarter square, though. In the spirit of a sports fan's self-preservation, Manning's interception preserved Joe Montana's seat on the quarterback throne. All hail King Joe!
Today's Money Wine comes with all the bells and whistles you ask of me. Brand new label, just released, tiny production, talented people making the wine, big rich spicy and REALLY GOOD. Plus, the price on this "designer wine" is very fair. Just arrived in the shop yesterday. More below.
Mourvedre tasting this Thursday and Rieslings on Friday. Details are in the right hand column. Back Room Wines tasting are more than good, they're good for you. Baggies of Caramel Corn to the first ten tasters who mention this email. The Great Caramel Corn Give-Away, as the historians shall label it, begins Thursday and will roll into Friday if there are any left.
Confessions of a semi-rehabilitated sports junkie: It's almost Spring Training. How great is that? Dan

Money Wine for February 10, 2010
Money Wine: a wine that anyone who loves good, rich, utterly delicious wine will enjoy A LOT, and is an EXCEPTIONAL VALUE.
WINDOW PANE Red Wine North Coast 2008 $34/bottle (net) When Kevin Carriker delivered Window Pane from the back of his station wagon yesterday, it reminded me of how Dave Phinney delivered "The Prisoner" to BRW from the back of his old pickup truck in 2003. Back then, "Prisoner" was tiny-production, sexy, tasted great and was well priced. It still tasted great and the price is right, but it's ubiquitous. Window Pane is brand new, delicious and, with 378 cases made, not to be found in many wine shops. Kevin and co-owner/co-winemaker Mark Herold (they own and make Kobalt Cabernet as well) have put their talents into Window Pane, a blend of 41% Petite Sirah, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Malbec and 11% Petit Verdot. All
the wine comes from Napa Valley except half the Petite Sirah. All the
wine was made by Kevin and/or Mark (i.e. no finished wine is purchased for
Window Pane). The Petite Sirah is aged in twice-used barrels: almost
neutral. The rest (60% of the wine) is aged in brand new French oak for just over a year. As far as the value factor goes, this is $50+ a bottle wine with a $34 price tag. I tasted this from barrel just before bottling and the mythical light
above my head lit up. Wow, this wine has the KER-POW of flavor and texture that you can't help but love to pieces. Mulberries, blackberries, cinnamon and other pie spices, black pepper and licorice, all brought into focus by strong yet controlled new French oak. Window Pane is stuffed to the gills with flavor while keeping the tannins in check. Many wineries are making red blends like this well, but Window Pane has reached another level here.
This is a wine that you will think about buying a case. You'll be happy if you
do. Through this weekend, the case price for the Window Pane Red Wine is $399 If you order a case online, you'll see a higher price. Not to worry: We'll adjust the price on our side. Thank you! 3 ways to order: Buy Window Pane online here. Just reply to this email with your order. Or call us, toll-free, at 877-322-2576.
