Back Room's
Customer Survey

15 questions. Gift certificate drawings for those who submit.

January 20, 2010
Greetings!
With Happy New Year salutations behind us, let's sink our teeth into Year 2010.
Looking globally, good wine is available by the boat-load for less dough than it was last year, or the year before that. There are good deals everywhere...wineries, merchants, wine clubs...if I wasn't so thick, or something, I'd be scared silly!

But there's no time for that. This spunky staff of two (Dan & Dan, at your service) have already re-arranged the wine shop with more racks and more inventory this year. It looks great, by the way. Come in and give us a verbal doggy treat with a "hey guys, it looks great!"
Tasting events are as original, fun and popular as ever. Two stellar tastings this week.
And you, my customer, continue to read about, purchase and enjoy your Back Room Wines.
I'll drink to that.

I hope you'll give me a couple minutes to complete my customer survey.
15 questions. I've incentivized it. See below.

CRAUFORD Cabernet Sauvignon "Tattoo"
Napa Valley 2006, $30/bottleCrauford Cabernet Sauvignon Tattoo

Napa needs more slam-dunk good Cabs for reasonable prices. Glad to report that CrauforD "Tattoo" fits the bill. Dark rich fruits, cinnamon, black pepper, nutmeg, mouth-filling and rich with smooth tannins. Take this to a party of Cab lovers and get ready for comments on your smart wine selection.

Maybe you know CrauforD Cabernet from the delicious and successful 2003 vintage we sold in 2008 & 9? Same vineyard source ("Maroon Vineyard," high in the eastern hills of Napa Valley, although this vintage doesn't say it for some reason), same winemaker, same big, bold style. Same great value too. What's up with "Tattoo" you ask. Named after the Edinburgh festival...the original owners of CrauforD (since sold, are of Scottish descent. Cool name...glad the new owners kept it.

Burgundy Tasting this Thursday
Taste Tour of Spain this Friday

A one-two punch in tasting events this week.
The wines are ready. Hope you can make one or both tastings.

This Thursday night, January 21, we'll pour you four
2007 Red Burgundies from Domaine de la Pousse d'Or.

Long regarded as one of Burgundy's great houses, Pousse d'Or took a step down in stature in 1997, when their long-time manager & winemaker Gerard Potel passed on. Ten vintages later, Pousse d'Or's wines and reputation are once again with Burgundy's elite. Come try four of their 2007 vintage wines:
  • Santenay "Les Gravieres" 1er Cru, $48
  • Volnay "Caillerets-Clos des Soixante Ouvrees"                       1er Cru, Monopole, $95
  • Volnay "Clos l'Audignac" 1er Cru, Monopole, $95
  • Corton-Bressandes, Grand Cru, $125
This tasting is $30. Once one bottle of each is consumed, that'll be it, so it may behoove you to come early. The wines are here, available for purchase.
Here's more on the four Pousse d'Or wines.

Snazzy comfort food in
Downtown Napa

Norman Rose Tavern
opened in
Norman Rose Tavern
Downtown Napa during Holiday Week to much excitement and enthusiastic diners. In sports-ese, appropriate considering their two big screens dedicated to sports, the restaurant hit it out of the park. It's been so crazy-popular, that Yogi Berra's line "nobody goes there-it's too crowded" has applied. The opening dust has begun to settle, and Holly & I snuck in Sunday night for a bite. I've known Owners Michael & Christina Gyetvan and Chef Reed Herrick since 2002, and know these folks can cook. Know how to run a restaurant, too.
"Elevated American Classics" they call the cuisine.
We had the Lamb Burger, Chop Salad and Truffle Parmesan fries. Killer. Good wine prices too (buy a bottle for best value). Tight menu, good beer selection on tap, solid service, great vibe.
Open 7 days a week for lunch & dinner straight through (i.e. they stay open all day). No reservations taken. Might be a wait during peak eating hours. Three stars, check it out.

Drink more Dry Vermouth (and use it in your cooking, too)
