Greetings!
WE had a great August. More shoppers visited the store than ever before. Definitely had more visitors to Napa Valley drop in and shop, many of whom staying at our new Downtown Napa hotels. We met lots of wine lovers and created more Back Room Wine fans. Alas, that was last month. It's September, the gateway to retailers "Big Pushl" Before you can say potatoe, the holidays will be here. We're now bringing the first of many fall-release wines from Napa Valley & beyond. I'll be turning you on to more excellent wine than ever before (he states hyperbolically) and bringing you even more great tasting events. Thursday night tastings start a week from today. More on this below.
Five wines that'll knock your socks off. Here are a handful of wines that I'm recommending now and will tell you about in even more glowing detail in the weeks to come. I've linked each wine to its website entry for more descriptions and easy ordering.
Robert Foley "The Griffin" Napa Valley 2007 $32 net. Featured in last week's email. Big bouncy spicy red blend. Slam-dunk good. Just arrived yesterday. Should be around through September.
T-Vine Grenache Napa Valley 2007 $31. I tasted it on Tuesday. Great intensity of fruit & spice with bigger tannins than years past. Serious red for non-serious occasions.
Outpost Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, Napa Valley 2006 $67. More Valley floor style in its rambunctious fruit, high glycerine and lower acidity. A fleshpot of a Cab, and I like it!
Oberschulte Syrah "Monte Rosso Vineyard" Sonoma Valley 2006 $39. I tasted this last winter and it was TIGHT. Has taken time to come around, but come around it has. Spicy, meaty, fruity, thick, wonderful. It's wine with character.
Meyer Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley $48. My latest Food & Wine blog entry tells it all. It's really good.
That's just five wines, and just local reds mind you, that I suggest. We have a world of wine to tempt your tummy, and they're all listed online. One page to bookmark is our WHAT'S NEW page for the latest wines to roll through our front door.
Right now, on a sultry Wednesday evening, I have Clos du Caillou Côtes du Rhône "Vieilles Vignes Cuvée Unique" 2007 in my glass. Popped the half bottle, poured some for me, some for Holly. It's so good...2007 is a blessed vintage for my two most cherished wine regions: Napa Valley & the Southern Rhone.
Get yo' groove on this Labor Day weekend. Dan Quayle.

Loire Valley Wine Tasting This Friday, September 4. That's not all... Thursday night tastings start next week.
This Friday Night, September 4, from 5 to 8 P.M., Back Room Wines pours seven Loire Valley wines. Wine students and experts alike will enjoy this tasting as we feature wines from seven different regions of the Loire:- Muscadet
 - Sancerre
- Vouvray
- Savennieres
- Saumur Champigny
- Quincy
- Coteaux du Layon
Our Loire tasting is $15, and we'll be selling all wines poured for 10% discount. Here are the wines you'll enjoy at the Loire Valley tasting.
Next week we start our Thursday night tastings. Thursday tastings focus even more on education with a flight of wines that, we hope, teach you a little about wine as well as expose you to new, tasty wines. Next Thursday, September 10: Chardonnay Zero to 100 Malolactic Taste the difference as you scale up the ML (i.e. butter) ladder. We start you with a very crisp 0% Malolactic wine, then progress up to 100%. Finally, we pour you a 100% ML White Burgundy (Chardonnay) that doesn't taste like 100% ML. Why? What gives? $15/tasting.
Thursday
tastings, just like Fridays, are from 5 to 8 P.M. (we're usually ready
to pour a little earlier however) and reservations are not necessary. We're scheduled into November on Thursday tastings (and Fridays too). Check out the Calendar of Tasting Events here.

| New website update |
Live for about two months, the new website is now, finally, at a point of completion where I can announce "THIS IS IT!" Until now, my reply to critiques has been "I know, we're fixing it." The fixes are done, so all who have given constructive feedback, please browse with new eyes and mouse. The Shop By options have been redone, starting with "Grape/Region," in which its like a stroll through the wine shop. Looking for a particular wine, or region, or name? Use the Find Wine search option in the upper left hand corner of every page. Dan Lee, a maestro with the Canon Camera, has taken every wine label picture in the shop (no small feat). However, if you want just the meat & potatoes, click the "Text Listings" button to switch from results with photos to all text. Not sure what I mean? Just email or call and we'll walk you through it. Feedback is always appreciated. I'll be highlighting different parts of the website over the next few months.
