Upcoming International Documentation Seminar

Join us on October 22 at the Eden Resort for a full day intensive seminar dealing with international documentation issues.   Our presenter is Mike Allocca, of Allocca Enterprises.  Mike has conducted hundreds of on-site and public training seminars across the United States and the globe. He works on a daily basis with importers and exporters conducting compliance audits, HTS & NAFTA classifications and implementing written export and import procedures.  

 

Topics Include:

  • Understanding how to correctly complete Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading, EEI's, Certificates of Origin, and Dock Receipts
  • Shippers Export Declaration (SED) - Understanding every field and completing each correctly. ( Even though we must submit them electronically (EEI), companies still use the SED to give to their forwarder)
  • How to minimize delays in customs by having all of the information the first time
  • Why you should be using a DCS statement on all of your invoices both domestic & international
  • Understanding which countries still require a wood certificate
  • What does legalization of documents mean and for which countries is this required
  • Pre-Shipment Inspection's - who requires them and how should they be done?
  • NAFTA Certificates of Origins - common errors, when you should/ shouldn't fill one out

Who should attend?

Traffic managers, purchasing managers, shipping/receiving personnel, compliance officer, sales managers, customer service managers and anyone involved /concerned with international shipments.

14th Annual "Bringing the World To YOU!"

Every fall, the representatives from PA's overseas trade offices visit Pennsylvania and make stops in 10 different cities to offer companies the opportunity for one-on-one meetings.  The World Trade Center's event was held on September 13th at the Holiday Inn in Grantville.   Here are this year's event numbers: 

 -  96 attendees

-  22 overseas trade representatives

-  144 one-on-one meetings

The event was co-hosted by Pennsylvania's Center for Trade Development and sponsored by UPS.  Additional funding support was provided by the US Small Business Administration.   More event pictures are posted on our blog.

State Receives Largest STEP Grant for FY 12-13
The US Small Business Administration awarded a $2.35 million grant to the State's Center for Trade Development for the second year of the State Trade Export Program (STEP).  Pennsylvania received the largest of the 51 awards made to US States and Territories.
 
Proposed grant-funded activities include the establishment of 2 special sba logoproject offices based in Jakarta, Indonesia and Prague, Czech Republic; the "Canada First" Program; $800K funding for the Global Access Program grant for PA companies;  and cost coverage for 18 outbound trade missions and shows, among others.

Hair Direct Plans Move to Larger Facility

As reported by the Central Penn Business Journal , WTC member Hair Direct has outgrown their current facility in Bainbridge and recently leased nearly 24,000 square feet at Greenfield Corporate Center.  The company expects to finish most of the move by the end of this year.

Congratulations to the Greater Reading Economic Partnership as they celebrate 10 years of economic development success in Berks County!

WTC & PA Export Program Featured on Local TV

Berks County TV recently aired an economic development segment highlighting international opportunities and resources. Wilfred Muskens, Deputy Secreatry of the State's Office of International Business Development and Tina Weyant were interviewed about available services.  The program also included a segment on Focused LLC, a Berks County company that participated in a recent trade mission with the State.

Understanding Business and Culture

in the Middle East: Focus UAE

6:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at Dixon University Center in Harrisburg 

 

The World Affairs Council of Harrisburg will host a delegation from the embassy of the United Arab Emirates  for a dinner and educational program on October 9.  Featured presenters include Dr. Saghira Al Ahbabi, Head of Political Affairs Department, Embassy of the United Arab Emirates and Saud Al Nowais, Commercial Counselor, Embassy of the United Arab Emirates.  Registration information and more information is available on the Council's website.

 Tools for Trade: Importing & Exporting Fundamentals

October 19 at the DuPont Facility in Wilmington, DE

 

The World Trade Center Delaware will be holding a day long conference October 19 covering the fundamentals of importing and exporting. The three seminars that will be hosted at the conference will be:

  • The ABC's of Importing & Exporting
  • Incoterms & Import/Export Logistics & Documentation
  • Methods of Payment & Risk Mitigation

Seminars will start at 8 am and will be followed by afternoon breakout sessions where attendees can address industry professionals in smaller groups.
