Event Recap
 | | Mandarin Level 1 Class Graduates |
Our first group of students successfully completed the Mandarin Level 1 for Business course last month. The class was not easy, but we had a great group of students and a wonderful teacher. What made it even more challenging was the fact that most of our participants frequently traveled to China, so at any given time, we were missing several students. Our teacher shared some useful websites for business travelers to China, which are posted on our blog. The class was offered in conjunction with Penn State York and we are exploring options for offering the Level 2 class. |
ExporTech is C oming to Southcentral PA
We are partnering with MANTEC to offer a unique approach to develop a peer-reviewed export growth plan over a 12 week period. Companies participate in three one-day group sessions and in between, each company works on the development and implementation of their strategic plan with the support of a coach.
ExporTech was developed by the Manufacturing Extension Partnership and the U.S. Export Assistance Centers and is offered in collaboration with state trade offices and regional partners throughout the country.

Climbing High to Develop New Export Markets
Richard Wurzbach, President of MRG Laboratories climbed atop a 400 ft high wind turbine tower in Denmark during his recent visit. York Laboratories developed a grease sampling device and analysis instrument, which requires as little as 1 gram of grease, making it especially useful for sampling used grease from inservice equipment.
Rich met with representatives from the Danish wind industry during a trade conference in Germany last year. He had been invited to speak at the "Oelcheck" conference and MRG Laboratories had been awarded a market access grant from the State, which helped to pay for some of the travel expenses. Rich was invited to Denmark to test the grease sampling devices and MRG Laboratories is now under contract to DONG Energy and Vattenfall to develop a standard method for grease sampling in wind turbines and they are routinely performing grease analysis on samples being sent from Denmark and Germany. "It is hard to imagine how we could have afforded those opportunities without the support of the World Trade Center and Pennsylvania's International Programs" says Rich. |
Global Access Program Grants Still Available
Take advantage of the funding available to PA companies through the Global Access Program (GAP). GAP funding reimburses 50%, up to $5000, of export promotion activities for qualified small and medium sized companies. Activities such as trade show participation, website globalization, and international product certification qualify. For more information, download the flyer, or contact the WTC. |

Melissa Attends NASBITE Conference
On April 18-20, 2012 Melissa attended the 25th Annual North American Small Business International Trade Educators (NASBITE) Conference in Portland, Oregon. The days were packed with numerous breakout sessions, ranging from China and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and Currency Exchange Issues to Opportunities in Colombia. The keynote sessions included Lessons Learned in Brazil, TSA Update, and an ITA Pres entation on Small Business Exporting. Melissa was also able to visit the World Trade Center of Portland, which is mainly a conference center, but it is always great to be able to visit a sister WTC. Melissa is looking forward to applying the knowledge she gained to better assist our clients and members. |
