CATO Institute's Dan Griswold Returns
"Trade Policy Outlook 2011 and Beyond"

We are pleased to announce that Daniel Griswold, director of the Center for Trade Policy Studies at the Cato Institute in Washington, D.C, will be presenting at our annual "Trade Policy Outlook" luncheon. Topics of discussion include how Congress and the President can be expected to work together this year regarding the South Korea trade agreement; Panama and Colombia; a miscellaneous tariff bill; renewal of preferential programs for poor countries; and relaxing export controls. Later in 2011, WTO members will meet in Geneva for yet another attempt to move the Doha round talks forward. In the background of the Doha talks will be the renewal of the farm bill in 2012, with lots of implications for U.S. trade policy. Tying all these themes together, Dan will also discuss the president's National Export Initiative and what needs to be done to boost exports from Central PA and the rest of the U.S.
Cost for the event is $35/members and $50/non-members | |

Celebrating our 20 Year Anniversary
2011 will be an exciting year for the World Trade Center as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary. To mark this special occasion, we are planning a year long celebration to conclude with a December birthday bash.
Part of the celebration is our "Passport to the World" project, a fun, year long opportunity for participants to collect "stamps" in a WTC issued passport to win prizes. Stamps can be earned through many different activities, ranging from event attendance and guest blogging to answering trade trivia via twitter, from hosting a roundtable or sharing your knowledge with another company, to visiting a sister WTC during your travels. Anyone can participate and all participants will be rewarded at the end of the year. Passports will be available by the end of the month - send us an email and we will send you one: info@wtccentralpa.org. |

Member Spotlight Opportunities
An important part of our anniversary is to celebrate our members who have made this organization strong for 20 years. We would like to highlight our members and their experiences in global trade through our newsletter, on our website and at events. Each member spotlight can be as brief or as complex as you would want it to be, and it can include challenges, successes, funny experiences or sharing of best practices or lessons learned. Event Recap

Roundtable with Kenyan Ambassador
We were honored to be partnering with Senator Brubaker and the State's Center for Trade Development to host H.E. Ambassador Elkanah Odembo, Kenyan Ambassador to the United States for a business roundtable on December 17th. The Linden School for Girls in Lititz generously donated space for the event and the US-Kenya Chamber of Commerce was instrumental in arranging this opportunity. Ambassador Odembo provided an overview of Kenya's growing economy, stressing opportunities in the energy sector. Kenya is East Africa's largest regional economy with a sophisticated and highly deregulated free market that is experiencing aggressive growth. Over 35 participants were able to join us for this unique opportunity to learn more about business opportunities in Kenya.
Annual Holiday Luncheon
Over 70 members and guests attended the WTC's annual holiday luncheon at the Out Door Country Club in York this year. As always, we had one of our members present about holidays and gift giving practices in a specific country. Our featured member was Keystone Human Services and attendees had a chance to learn more about the many services that Keystone provides - not just in the southcentral PA region, but worldwide. Ann Moffitt, Vice President of Community Development for Keystone Human Services and CEO of Keystone Partnership shared more about the agency's activities in Russia and Moldova. Ann then turned the program over to Magda Kubiak, a graduate student from Poland currently doing her internship with Keystone Human Services. Magda gave a wonderful presentation about Polish holiday customs, including the foods associated with various festivities. Thank you! to our sponsors of this event: MANTEC and Cumberland County Economic Development. |

Expanded Services We have purchased a subscription to an automated Denied Party Screening Tool, to help our members and clients comply with US export laws and regulations. US companies must screen their potential customers at time of order and prior to shipment. Failure to do so may result in fines and possible loss of export privileges. We are offering one free search for non-members per year, to give this service a try, and three free searches for our members. After that, the cost per entity search will be $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
In addition to the "Daily Strategic Briefs", we are now also offering our members access to the Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Forecasting service. |

Wagman Metal Products
The annual presentation of The Concrete Society's coveted Awards for Excellence took place in London in November 2010. In the building category, the winner was London's Victoria and Albert Museum, which was recognized for their utilization and finish work of white concrete on the project's floor and staircase landings. The highly prized finish work was achieved with the help of Wagman Metal Products' Poly power trowel blades. Jeff Snyder, Wagman's Sales Manager, was on hand at the Museum's job site in 2008 to consult with the project's concrete contractor and concrete consultant. A PA Market Access Grant helped offset the costs associated with Mr. Snyder's travel to the UK. CONGRATULATIONS to Wagman Metal Products - well done!
Campbell Trade Group
Randy Campbell, President of Campbell Trade Group and Chairman of the Board for the WTC, was named "Free Zone Ambassador for North America" at the World Free Zones Annual Convention held in the UAE this past November.
Enginuity Energy
WTC member Enginuity Energy unveiled their advanced biomass facility installation at the HACC campus during a press conference on January 11.
The portable facility houses equipment employing the firm's Ecoremedy gasification technology, which converts biomass into energy. The Ecoremedy technology represents a leap in gasification technology as it accepts non-uniform, high moisture content, and high ash materials without the need for pre-processing, drying, chipping or pelletizing. WTC's Trade Specialist Melissa Stiles Appointed to RDA Board
Melissa Stiles was recently appointed by York Mayor Kim Bracey to serve on the Redevelopment Authority Board for the City of York. The Redevelopment Authority acquires title to blighted properties in the City and restores them to comply with building codes and to ensure they are no longer a blighting influence in their neighborhoods.
