Welcome New Member

  • We're Bringing the World to YOU!
  • Join us on September 27 when we host 21 of Pennsylvania's overseas trade representatives at the Lancaster County Convention Center. If you are interested in expanding your international market presence, this is one event you don't want to miss. The State's overseas trade offices can assist you with in-country market research, regulatory & competitive information and connect you to qualified agents, distributors or strategic partners - all at no cost to you. Schedule your individual appointments now by contacting the WTC office.

In addition to your appointments, network with the trade representatives, sponsors and local companies during our reception and luncheon program and enjoy our keynote speaker Terri Morrison, author of "Kiss Bow or Shake Hands". Terri will share cultural blunders and successes, while comparing negotiating styles, concepts of time, decision making processes and other cultural intricacies from around the globe. We are also offering a morning seminar called "Managing Foreign Exchange Risk", providing you with timely information and risk management strategies.
A big Thank You! to our Silver Sponsor Fulton Bank and our Bronze sponsors First Energy, MANTEC and UPS for their support of this program.

  • WTC Members Tour Port of Philadelphia
  • UPS cargo tour

On August 25, WTC members had the opportunity to tour the Philadelphia seaport as well as the UPS cargo facilities at the Philadelphia International Airport. Thanks to the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority and UPS for hosting our group and providing a first hand look at cargo movement. We learned and saw a lot, from a Columbian vessel with a load of bananas to the inside of a large cargo plane.

  • Social Media and Global Trade Shows
  • With the increased usage of social media for business marketing, many companies are utilizing social media at trade shows. Here are some ideas on how to incorporate social media marketing into your trade show strategies:

    On Twitter:
    - Follow the conversation revolving around the hashtag for that tradeshow. Start following the users using this hashtag, and invite those users to visit your booth
    - Offer special gifts to your Twitter followers for stopping by your trade show booth
    - Some tradeshows are now offering Tweet-ups. Attend them and meet others using Twitter to market their business/brand
    - In Asia, the exchange of the Twitter username is often just as important (even sometimes in place of) exchanging business cards

On Location-based applications, such as Foursquare:
    - Add your booth location as a place that enables users to "check in" to your booth. This could attract potential customers to come to your booth if they see others "checking in" to your booth
    - Offer incentives to those who check-in, such as special gifts or a discount on first order
    - Be sure to "check-in" your company to the tradeshow, so others can see that your company is represented at the trade show

    Ustream
    - Live stream video from your booth for product demonstrations

Use of Quick Response (QR) Codes
    - Develop a unique QR code that allows trade show attendees to scan at your booth using their smart phone- the QR code could link to your website or to a questionnaire page that allows attendees to enter their contact information, or your QR code could allow attendees to easily bookmark your website

  • Upcoming Partner Events
  • On September 16, MANTEC, in conjunction with the York Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting a seminar called "Driving Growth After the Great Recession", featuring Dr. Ned Hill, one of the nation's foremost thought leaders on manufacturing.
    * Discover the common characteristics of successful firms- seven lessons for small and mid-sized businesses.
    * Understand best practices and building competitive advantage.
    * Learn how legislative policies are affecting manufacturing in Pennsylvania's economy.
For more details, visit the MANTEC website.

Our sister organization, the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia, is organizing a Trade Mission to India with stops in New Delhi and Mumbai from January 2-13, 2011. This mission combines an MBA study tour with a traditional trade mission and participating companies will receive complimentary market research conducted by Temple University MBA students. Companies may opt to join the entire trip or only participate in the one-on-one match-making meetings in one or both cities. More details can be found on the WTC Philadelphia website.

The US-Algeria Business Council will be hosting a Trade & Investment Mission September 25-30 to Algeria. The best prospects for the Algerian market are power generation supplies (such as gas turbines), seismic and exploration development services, medical devices (such as diagnostics, medical administrative software, hospital design services), construction machinery, and water and environmental technologies. If you are involved in any of these industries and would like to pursue this market, there is another opportunity to do so at the Algiers International Trade Fair. It is the largest single trade event in Algeria. Held from May 30- June 4, 2011, it attracts nearly 60,000 visitors, including high-ranking Algerian government officials. If you would like more information on these events, please contact us.
