Greetings!
|
We have definitely entered that time of year when you get to experience the best of the summer and fall - Peaches and other stone fruits, Apples, Vegetables, Cider (fresh pressed!), Berries and more!
To get you in the back-to-school spirit, we have a couple of ideas to help ease you into the routine. We have delicious apples for lunch boxes - we've harvested Kid Size Gala just in the nic-of-time. Plus we have Honeycrisp, Elstar, GingerGold, Blondee, Jonamac, and Bartlett & Asian Pears to make any lunch box sweet.
Also try sprucing up that good ol' PB&J with some unique Kuhn Orchards Jams & Jellies like: Strawberry Rhubarb Jam, Blue Italian Plum, Raspberry Peach Melba, Santa Rosa Plum and many more varieties!
Or send a Farmers Market Care Package to your undergrad (or post grad!). Apples, Peaches, a jar of Heirloom Pumpkin Butter, a few baked goods and you're all set; plenty of healthy snacks for them to munch on between classes or during late night study sessions!
We hope you all have a wonderful and safe Labor Day Weekend!
See you at the Farmers Market under the Kuhn Orchards' tent!!

Cresthaven, Autumn Glo & Victoria
|
Many folks have been inquiring how much longer we will have peaches. Cresthaven, Autumn Glo, and Victoria are the last of the peach varieties to harvest and for you to enjoy.
We hope to bring peaches to market for about another two weeks. Because of the early spring, the heat, and the rain we have experienced this season, the peach harvest timeline hasn't been the norm. We spot pick the peaches many times, so that helps to extend the harvest season. So the two week time window is our best guess; but it could be a little shorter or a little longer. We'll just have to wait and see.
But that said. If you've been procrastinating and haven't canned peaches yet to tide you over the winter, or you want to make another batch of jam, or you need to make one last
peach cobbler, now is the time! You can
purchase a half bushel box of peaches at market and pack them yourself, or you can pre-order a box of peaches by calling our office (717-334-2722). We will accept orders for markets after the Labor Day Weekend. |
Fresh Off The Press....Cider that is!
|
Doesn't it seem like you've been without cider for an eon? Welp, its only been a week, but we'll have fresh cider at market this weekend! And it can't get any fresher!
This blend will be slightly different than the last. This batch is Jonamac, Elstar, and Gala apples. We just cracked open our first jug at the farm and it is delicious! We blend our cider to be deliciously sweet with a little tart to balance it all out.
We bottle our cider in pints, quarts, and half gallons; there is an ideal size for everyone. A pint will make a great addition to any lunch box. Or try freezing the cider just enough to make a slushy; its the perfect way to welcome fall and still cool off on a hot and sunny day. And when the air finally gets a bit brisk, Kuhn Orchards cider is wonderful spiced and hot.

Winter CSA.....Soft Premiere
|
Last year Kuhn Orchards organized a Winter CSA program; we delivered boxes of produce and dry goods to subscribers in Washington, D.C. and Farifax County, VA. We are planning to have a CSA for the 2012-2013 Winter, however, we are still working out some of the details.
We have lots of new plans for this year's CSA: new crops to include in the CSA boxes, a second delivery location in Fairfax County, and much more!!
We promise we will send out the Q&A sheet and application to you as soon as we get everything finalized.
