Greetings!
Lots of folks have been asking about how we are doing with the rainy cloudy weather, and there are two sides to every coin.  First, its no fun picking anything in the rain; but our employees have great attitudes and they understand the importance of sticking to our strawberry and asparagus picking schedules.  Second, we have been getting rain mainly on Mondays and Tuesdays, and for the past few weeks, the sun comes out as soon as Sidney and Jess hit the road for Crystal City on Tuesdays.  So our Farmers Markets have been very pleasant and we are grateful for that!

We have been getting the loaded question "When will your peaches be coming in?"  We anticipate to have our tree-ripened peaches by mid-July, but we will definitely give you a heads up in the newsletter so you will know when to expect them.  In the mean time.....
Canned PeachesTry our canned peaches.  They are honestly the "next best thing."  In fact, one of our Winter CSA customers called them "Canned Heaven!!"  Try them sliced on vanilla ice cream, grill them with some pork chops, or try Mary Margaret's Pickled Peaches (or "spiced peaches").

We look forward to seeing you at market!
Market Reminders
Attention Vienna Farmers Market Customers:
The Town of Vienna will be hosting "Viva Vienna!" this Saturday (5/26) so the farmers market will not be open.  We hope you will shop with us at our Fairfax Farmers Market from 8am until 1pm behind the Old Courthouse.

Farmers Market Coupon Expires
In late April we included a coupon for our e-newsletter customers to be used at our Farmers Markets.  Coupons must be redeemed by Thursday, May 31st.  Please take advantage of the coupon and bring it with you to market.
Strawberries & Fabulous Recipes!
"So, how do I go about picking the best strawberries?  How long do they last?  And how should I store them?" might be some of the questions that cross your mind when trying to choose your weekly box of strawberries.  Strawberries

Here are some tips on how to choose the freshest strawberries...

Strawberries typically keep in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.  And you will want to keep an eye on them and remove any spoilage, as it will make the rest of the berries go bad.  Wash the berries and remove the caps just prior to consuming.

Take a gander through our tried & true Kuhn Family recipes to enjoy your strawberries.

Garlic Scapes
Garlic ScapesThis week we will be bringing Garlic Scapes to market. And you will definitely notice them at our stand because they are quite a unique looking item! But first, let us tell you what they are.

Garlic Scapes are the edible flower stalk of the garlic plant. We harvest the stalks from the garlic normally in June - but we're a little early this year because of the early spring. It is necessary to harvest the scapes so that the plant puts all of its energy into growing a large garlic bulb instead of the flower.

Garlic Scapes are very versatile in cooking and a definite conversation piece.  Click here to read more.
