MAY LUNCHEON REPORT

ambroggio

Today's speaker. Dr. Luis Ambroggio, a member of the Member of the Royal Spanish Academy and the North American Academy of the Spanish Language, focused on "The History of Argentina." Beginning with a wonderful pictorial review of the country, he took our members on an enchanting  tour of the architecture and sites of Buenos Aries, Codoba, Patagonia, Salta, and of course the state of Usuhaia and the southernmost city in the world, Terra Del Fuego.

Along the way, Dr. Ambroggio emphasized the multi-cultural mix of the various regions and the large influx of immigrants from Scotland, England, Italy, Spain and many other locations.

Dr. Ambroggio then provided a history lesson covering the country's ancient past, the Inca period, and the large number of wars and struggles leading to a constitution in 1853. He also provided insight to the many years of turmoil experienced through much of the 1900's plus years of corruption to the end of that century.

He explained in detail the more peaceful and prosperous nature of the country today. He also reviewed the Islas Malvinas/Fallklands dispute with England starting with the area history and a description of the current state of affairs. In closing,                 Dr. Ambroggio covered economic issues and Argentina's relationships with their neighbors and other countries around the world. A brief but informative Q&A session followed the presentation.
