Kids Should Play Outside

With so many video games and shows out there, kids are starting to stay indoors more often. This could be a huge issue due to the high numbers of obesity, especially in our area of Southern Louisiana. The Louisiana obesity rate is 31 percent, making it one of the highest in the nation. To keep children from becoming part of the number, it's important to incorporate some outdoor time so that kids can run and explore the world around them.

Here is a list provided by the National Wildlife Federation on why kids should play outdoors.

Stronger bones and lower cancer risk: Today's "indoor kids" don't get enough sun and are becoming Vitamin D deficient, causing health risks.
Trimmer and healthier kids: An hour of play a day is what doctors say is a basic tool in the effort to ward off childhood obesity and diabetes.
Improved eyesight: Recent studies find that kids who get outdoor time have less nearsightedness and need for eye glasses.
Less depression and hyperactivity: Outdoor time in natural setting (even tree-lined streets) soothes kids and lowers their need for medications.
Longer attention spans: Children who stare at the TV and video games all day have less patience and shorter attention spans.
Better at making friends: Children playing together outdoors relate directly with one another, create games together, choose sides and improve their "people skills."
More creative: Outdoor kids are more likely to use their own imaginations, inventions and creativity while playing.
Improving immunity: Playing in the dirt strengthens the immune system. Handling bugs in childhood is critical to preventing many auto-immune diseases. Your body learns by doing and through evidence, just as it does for intellectual activities.
Measurably better grades in school: The healthy bodies and minds that come with outdoor play are better able to do well in school.
A longer lifespan and healthier adult life: Doctors estimate that sedentary and obese children lose three to five years from their life expectancy.

Featured Project- Alex Box Baseball Stadium

Spring represents new beginnings. As we embark into 2012 and anxiously anticipate the spring season, we can expect the familiar sounds of baseball players starting practice for a new season. For Louisiana State University, those two common themes (baseball and new beginnings) go hand in hand.

LSU has built a unique and ambitious baseball facility, a new Alex Box Stadium . This $30+ million facility was intended to be the preeminent collegiate baseball park in the country, a facility with no equal to match the extraordinary level of the program's accomplishments and passionate support of its fan base.

Here at No Fault Sport Group, we pride ourselves on the versatility of our multiple surface applications. Our surfaces are not only ideal for playground cushion protection, but also for limitless sports surface applications. In addition to the baseball park, we also provided surfacing at the new Softball Complex. Other, recent installations include prominent LSU Athletics facilities such as Tiger (Football) Stadium and The Natatorium Swimming and Diving Complex.

No Fault worked with a Baton Rouge, La.-based general contractor, Buquet and LeBlanc, Inc., on providing surfaces for the new baseball park. The nationally-renowned poured-in-place product, No Fault Sports & Safety Surface was installed in front of the dugouts as well as two playground areas behind right and left field.

During a recent inspection of the new field, the baseball coach was so impressed by the No Fault surface that he suggested, "It is the coolest element of the best baseball facility in the country."

We were also excited to provide one of our new premium surface applications, No Fault SporTurf artificial grass, for the indoor batting cages at the facility.

Jake Mayo, Project Manager with Buquet and LeBlanc, Inc. was so pleased in his dealings with No Fault, that he claimed:

"Your product really helps bring the whole thing together. It has been very easy working with your sales staff and project managers while coordinating the install. They know the product and process completely which always helps a general contractor. The surfacing is flawless and the custom color turned out perfect. (Head Baseball) Coach (Paul) Mainieri and the whole staff love it and say they wish they had put it all the way around the field!"
