GREETER MINISTRY

On January 31st, Deacon Joe Murphy held a meeting to kick-off the St. Joseph Greeter Ministry.  It was a fun pizza party which was attended by approximately 40 to 50 members of the Parish.  After an opening prayer, Fr. Perreault gave a few remarks about the future development of St. Joseph's Hospitality Ministry.

One branch is the ushers and the other- the greeters. For this reason Deacon Murphy invited Rocky Santarchangelo, the head of the ushers and the rest of his team to attend.  The head of the greeters , Joan Gardella and Asst. Chair Dutch Devlin, helped put the meeting together.

There are coordinators for each Mass: Claire Lamb, Joe Kock, Peg McDermott, Joan Coll and Karen Torroni.  This group will make sure that their assigned Mass will be covered by 4 or 5 greeters.  Each one is asked to arrive about 20 minutes early and stay about 10 minutes after Mass, and greet as many people as they possibly can. Deacon Joe also asked them to be alert for non- parishioner visitors and make them feel really welcome.  He told them to be aware that some people may be very sensitive due to sickness and/or death in their families or other major problems and that many are suffering spiritually.  He also spoke about possible emergency situations during Mass in case anyone gets sick.

Deacon Murphy stressed that this is our parish and it is only as good as we make it.  People need to get involved. The goal is to have each greeter "work" on one Sunday per month. To accomplish this, he hopes many more people join the group. He wants everyone to know what a wonderful Parish community we have in Sea Isle and the surrounding mainland neighborhoods.

If you would like to join this the Greeter Ministry, call the parish center at 609-263-8696 and leave an email address and phone number and someone will get back to you.  Deacon Murphy says "Come on now, sign up.!!!"

THE ST. JOSEPH INTERCESSORY PRAYER MINISTRY

Article1

The St. Joseph's Intercessory Prayer Ministry is for those parishioners who are hurting spiritually, emotionally, physically and psychologically.  There is a team of intercessors led by Director Betty Dougherty who is pictured on right(phone 609-263-6370 /cell 609-827-6370) and  Co-Director Joan Gardella who is pictured on left (609-263-6103), who pray for these petitions. As soon as a request comes through to Betty or Joan, they notify the prayer team captains who, in turn, notify their prayer teams.  Each captain has 3 or 4 members in their group.  Currently, there are 24 volunteers from the parish.

The Prayer Line Meetings are held once a month, from September to June on the 3rd Monday of the month at 2:00pm in the classroom area of the auditorium.  The agenda for these meetings includes an opening prayer, sharings, upcoming events, and updates on the petitions with a closing prayer.

To phone your prayer request or for any information, please contact Betty or Joan, whose numbers are listed above. The captains are:

Kitty Kelly  263-7236         Jennie Hadfield   263-1157

Ann Koch  545-8791          Fran Cleary       263-7273

Betty says they have received requests from parishioners who were in Florida and even Arizona.  Heaven knows the power of prayer and how much people rely on it during troubled times.  This is such an important and worthwhile ministry.  Please give Betty or Joan a call if you would like to participate.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FOUL SHOOTING CONTEST

 FS 1FS 2

In 2003, sports writer, Mitch Albom, published his second mass market hit novel, THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN.  Not only was this book "the beach-read" of the year; it also generated tons of interesting discussion.  You couldn't approach a beach "circle", an after Mass chat, a walk to the courts, a trip to the Carousel, or a family party without someone asking "So, where's your heaven?"

It is no surprise that these discussions and questions come to mind when viewing the scene of the Knights of Columbus foul shooting contest recently held at Bishop McHugh School.  Picture this- 80 people from ages 2 to 70 engaged in helping, encouraging, and allowing kids to compete and cheer each other on in focused, healthy, good clean fun.

Thanks to Joe Koch, event organizer, and the other dozen and a half Knights, Catholic Daughters, and volunteers, who registered, rebounded, recorded and congratulated the enthusiastic participants.  Thanks to all of the parents who made time in their hectic weekend to encourage and/or allow their kids to participate in this wonderful day, and, as always who cleaned up the gym afterward.  Thanks to the 40 plus Bishop McHugh students who woke up early on a Saturday morning to compete in a most entertaining and sportsmanlike manner throughout the entire event.  This truly was a sample of Christian athletics at its best.

By the way, the winners Age 10 - Brian Furey and Delaney Larkin (both of St. Joseph Parish) Age 11 - Will McGonigle and Brenna Laverty, Age 12-Trey Smith and Hanna Grimes, Age 13-Connor Laverty and Laura Lombardelli, and Age 14 - Jack Tumelty and Sammie DelSordo earned the opportunity to move on to the district competition at St James parish hall in Ventnor.  Again, thanks to Joe, the Knights and all the folks who made the event so successful;congrats to all of our shooting stars.  No doubt that Mitch would agree this day was truly a little glimpse of heaven.

BREAKING NEWS - This just in....six of the shooters representing the St.Joseph Knights of Columbus at the DISTRICT foul shooting competition won for their age group.  St Joseph's own Brian Furey, Will McGonigle, Brenna Laverty, Hanna Grimes Conner Laverty, and Laura Lombardelli will advance to the Regional competition to be held on Feb. 25th at the Upper Township Community Center.

Congrats to our winners  - both the shooters and the Knights!

PRAYER PARTNERS

Earlier this year, a group of the Catholic Daughters selected, out of a hat, the name of a parish 2nd Grader to be their prayer partner. (Pictured above are Vera McQuillen with John Pond and Jennie Hadfield with Tommy Carr).  A meet and greet was held one Monday evening where they made a craft, had snacks, prayed and got to know one another.  The women have been invited as special guests to First Penance and First Holy Communion.  Hopefully these "partners" will have made a connection that will last a lifetime.....
