Does Book Trust Make an Impact? Survey data reveal eyebrow-raising results.
Each year, Book Trust students and teachers complete a survey that measures the impact of the program on students' reading skills, attitudes and behaviors.
Overall, the data show that: - Book Trust students are more confident in their reading skills;
- Book Trust students have more positive attitudes towards reading;
- Book Trust students are more likely to report certain positive reading behaviors;
- Book Trust positively impacts reading behaviors in the home;
- Book Trust students report that their parents are more likely to read with them, talk with them about books, or tell them to read in their free time; and
- Most importantly, Book Trust students progress to grade level reading faster than non-Book Trust students.
The data provide strong evidence that allowing kids to choose the books they are interested in and want to read increases their excitement for reading. The increased enjoyment of reading translates into more positive attitudes toward reading, more productive reading behaviors, increased skills, expanded interests, improved academic performance, increased motivation to learn, and increased parental and family engagement in reading. The complete data report will be available online by August 31. |

A Teacher's Voice
Book Trust is the most amazing program I have been involved with in my 26 years of teaching. Reading is at the heart of all learning and
Book Trust is encouraging that "heart" to
beat loud and strong.
