Greater Texas Foundation Proves Book Trust Can Be Life Changing
Impact of Book Trust Extends Past Elementary SchoolDerral Fleeks and Michael Rodriguez, fifth grade students at Kemp Elementary School in Bryan, Texas, greeted guests at the Book Trust book delivery on March 23rd--and it changed their lives. What Derral and Michael said about Book Trust was so compelling that Dr. Southerland, honored guest and board chair of the Greater Texas Foundation (GTX), told them that not only was he giving $200 to each of their classrooms so they could select more books, but he was also giving each of the two boys a $1000 scholarship for their college funds!
 | | Greater Texas Foundation Executive Director Dr. Wynn Rosser shares a Book Trust moment with a Kemp student. | What did Derral and Michael say? Derral said that his mother has to pay for his food, clothing, and housing before she can even think about buying books. Thanks to Book Trust, he now has a collection of books at home that he reads every day and shares with his siblings. He helps his brothers and sisters learn to read, too--even checking in with their teachers. Michael comes from a family of six and told Dr. Southerland about reading with his siblings. When asked what he wants to be when he grows up, Michael said he wants to work at Book Trust!
GTX supports Book Trust at both College Hills and Kemp elementary schools. Kemp serves over 500 students; 97% qualify for free or reduced price lunch.
Book Trust Executive Director Amy Friedman shares Derral's and Michael's excitement--and joins them in thanking the Greater Texas Foundation for its generosity and support of Book Trust.
We're so very grateful.

Support Comes in All Shapes and Sizes
Children's artwork pays it forward
Knowledge Beginnings is an organization that operates early-learning centers nationwide. The schools serve children from eight weeks of age through third grade, offering them a safe environment to explore, discover, and learn.
Three years ago, Knowledge Beginnings in Littleton, Colorado, elected to support Book Trust because it is a literacy-based, local charity that fit with its vision of developing people and making a positive difference in the lives of children and families through the power of education. Book Trust is a perfect fit.
Every year Knowledge Beginnings hosts KB Art Walk which displays children's artwork throughout the school and makes it available for purchase by silent auction. One hundred percent of the proceeds of this annual event goes to Book Trust.
We can't thank Knowledge Beginnings enough.

Book Clubs Make Book Trust a Project
The Joy of Reading--and Giving Back--Together in Fort Collins, Colorado, Hardbacks Book Club has been a long-time supporter of Book Trust. Club member, Tricia Diehl, says, "It's so gratifying to help these children develop their love of reading especially because of our own experience. We've built such meaningful friendships around the act of reading and sharing books."
Members of Hardbacks Book Club make generous donations to Book Trust and help inform schools in Larimer County, Colorado, about the Scholastic $1 Deal. In West Maui, Hawaii, Kapalua Friday Morning Book Club is also a Book Trust champion. Its members became intrigued after hearing about the support Book Trust is providing to West Maui elementary schools, King Kamehameha III and Princess Nahienaena. Members have supported Book Trust's efforts by sharing information about the program with other local book clubs through their blog. They also donated through the TedxMaui initiative, which doubled their support with matching gifts. Book groups can play a unique role in helping grow a new generation of book lovers, readers, and life-long learners.
