TMA welcomes former British Olympian Derek Redmond to the host city of the 1996 Olympics for an inspiring keynote presentation at the 2012 TMA Spring Conference, April 3-5 in Atlanta.

While earning gold medals at World, European and Commonwealth levels, Redmond also saw more than his fair share of bad luck and heartache, most famously during the Barcelona 1992 Olympics when his hamstring snapped during the 400m semi-finals. A medal favorite, Redmond struggled to his feet and, along with his father, hobbled the remaining 250 meters in a scene that has become one of the most enduring in modern Olympic history.

TMA is now accepting entries for the 2012 Butler-Cooley Excellence in Teaching Award, which will be presented to two K-12 teachers at the 2012 TMA Annual Convention, November 1-3 in Boston.

Established in 2004 with a grant from the John Wm. Butler Foundation Inc., the Butler-Cooley Excellence in Teaching Awards Program honors teachers who have demonstrated their capacity to change the outcome of students' lives and communities where they teach. Winners receive a $5,000 cash stipend and are reimbursed up to $1,000 for transportation and lodging costs for the TMA Annual Convention.
