Don Crank III was promoted to Willamette Valley Vineyards winemaker in late 2006 and serves alongside head winemaker, Forrest Klaffke, creating the best wine possible from the Willamette Valley Appellation. An articulate and easy going fellow, Don brings a wealth of scientific knowledge and energy to the cellar.
His promotion marks the growth of the winery where Don supervises winemaking operations at Tualatin Estate, a winemaking facility purchased from Oregon wine pioneer Bill Fuller in 1997.
Don was educated at Purdue University where he received a degree in biochemistry with an emphasis in food science. Initially, a professor at Purdue who taught wine appreciation classes, inspired him to learn more about winemaking. A trip to France, where he fell in love with the local Burgundian grape, convinced him to focus on Pinot Noir. |
