prepared for life
  Dear Scouter,

Just a reminder that the Glacier's Edge Council is not a member agency of the Dane County United Way and that the only way that we receive funds from them is through Donor Designations. Please consider designating all or a portion of your gift to the Glacier's Edge Council or you can write in Boy Scouts of America. Please ask for a thank you on the form so that we can thank you for your support.

We are members of several other United Ways in our Council and we would encourage you to let them know that you are supportive of the Boy Scouts of America and the positive impact it has on your son and his friends. We have been getting less money each year from many of the United Ways, which affects our ability to deliver the scouting program. Including a note with your pledge card will help us show that their donors believe in the Scouting Program and would like to see funding increase to the Boy Scouts so that we can make a difference in the lives of the youth in our communities.

If you have any questions about the support of the United Way please contact Les German or Steve Heck and they will be happy to discuss this topic with you.

BeAScout
the online Google Map to Scouting
beascoutbutton  BeAScout, the online Google Maps application to help parents find Scout units for their children in any zip code WORKS!  35 families discovered units through BeAScout in Wisconsin River District.   This is a very powerful tool; but, it needs unit leaders to populate their "pin" with unit contact information. A step-by-step guide for unit leaders can be found on the council membership page (link:  http://glaciersedge.org/2010/08/beascout/). BSA Adopt-a-School
build strong, sustaining relationships with schools
BSA-Adopt-a-School
"Do a good turn daily" is the Boy Scout slogan. Sometimes we forget to help the people we see all the time. There are lots of projects in schools that can use a group of helpers: ushers for special events, ticket takers, refreshment stands, tree planting, flag honor guards, and  decorating are just some examples. Talk with your school officials and see what special projects they need help with. Establish a partnership with your local school by reaching out and asking to "Adopt" it.

Sign your Pack, Troop, or Crew up today @

Wood Badge C3-620-12 a Great Success

Congratulations to the 29 Scouters that completed Wood Badge course C3-620-12. Held over six days in August at Ed Bryant Scout Reservation, those that attended were given leadership tools to last a life-time. These tools will prove useful not only in scouting, but in everyday life. Scouters that have completed the classroom portion of the course can be identified by their plaid Troop 1 neckerchief, which they wear until they earn their full regalia. Please be sure to thank those that have attended for giving of their time and dedication to better the scouting program.

Voice of the Scout
Voice_of_Scout

Glacier's Edge Council is set to collect the Voice of Scouts, Parents & Volunteers in September.

As part of a national Boy Scout of America program, the Glacier's Edge Council is excited to announce their participation in the Voice of the Scout. With over four million members, this program is being adopted as a key way to collect experiences and deliver upon the expectation of members as they participate in Scouting.

Beginning late September, parents, Scouts & Venturers over 14, volunteers and chartered organizations will begin seeing surveys delivered into their email inboxes for Voice of the Scout. The surveys have been designed to be very brief but will give needed insight into the variety of experiences at the unit and district within our council.

Surveys will stay open for three weeks, and then information will be referenced for making key decisions to drive Scouting forward, as guided by the people that matter most - our members. It will be a continuous program, in that we will launch these surveys twice per year, with no household receiving more than one survey every six months.

Due to the sheer volume of surveys in this program, we must deliver via email to effectively and efficiently collect opinions. To make the most of this program we will begin asking for emails updates regularly, so please make sure we have your most recent email by September 23.

Voice of the Scout is how we will help guide our decision-making for our future programs and operational delivery. Please take a few minutes of your time to participate!
