Southern Lakes District Notice |
Hello Southern Lakes Volunteers,
Please note some important upcoming dates: Due to Elkhorn School District's Spring Break, our April Roundtable is moved back one week to Thursday, April 12th, from 7:00 to 8:30 at the Elkhorn High School. Topics of interest include Outdoor Safety and being prepared for Hazardous Weather. Our May Roundtable will be back on the regular first Thursday of the month schedule, and will be May 3rd. Our District Committee will meet on Wednesday, April 4th, from 7:00 to 8:30 at Rocky Rococo's restaurant in Whitewater. Please join us if you can - everyone is welcome - we are working to revitalize our district. On Monday, April 30th, from 7:00 to 8:30, at the Cravath Lakefront Community Center, 341 South Fremont Street, Whitewater, our District will have a "Friendstorming" session to help us broaden the base of volunteers serving as commissioners, committee members, trainers, roundtable staff, etc. in our district. In Friendstorming, a facilitator helps us brainstorm to identify potential new volunteers. With more helping hands we can expect to accomplish more of Scouting's mission in Southern Lakes District, as well as lighten everyone's load. We need folks from every community in our district to attend Friendstorming to make this session effective. Please be thinking about people who would be good additions to our volunteer team. If you cannot attend Friendstorming, please email your suggestions to Heidi Gunyon (hgunyon@hendricksgroup.net) or Steve Orlovsky (sorlovsk@bsamail.org).
On Thursday, May 10th is the Glacier's Edge Council Dinner. The highlight of this dinner is the presentation of the Silver Beaver awards to deserving Scouting volunteers. The Silver Beaver is the highest award a council can bestow. Lon and Vickie Sherman, two of our Southern Lakes District volunteers, will be receiving the Silver Beaver - let's have a crowd of district friends in attendance for that big event! Gathering, 6:00-7:15; Dinner & Program 7:15-9:15. Location: Christ Lutheran Church, 700 County Road B, Stoughton. Cost: $20/person til May 4 and $25/person after May 4 for your choice of prime rib or chicken cordon blue, side dishes, drink and dessert. Reservations accepted until May 7th. Sign up form found on the council website, at http://glaciersedge.org/wp-content/uploads/2012-Council-Recognition-Dinner.pdf.
If your unit's Recharter paperwork is not in, you are lapsed and in danger of dropping, which means your youth would not be covered by BSA insurance! If you are in that danger zone, please contact Heidi Gunyon (262-745-2338) or Steve Orlovsky (608-322-0908) immediately!
