Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training- Registration begins at 8:00 am and the training continues until 4:30 PM. There is an $8.00 fee for meals and materials. Course Director: Ben Bending.

The Trainers Edge- Registration begins at 8:00 am. Course Director: Luann Rece. There is an $8.00 fee for meals and materials. Please bring a prepared, short (5-10 minute) presentation on a topic of any BSA material and any teaching aids you would like to use.

Wood Badge Promotional Dinner- Gathering begins at 6:00 PM, Pot Luck Dinner at 6:30 PM. Bring a dish according to your last name: A-H Dessert, I-Q Salad, R-Z Hot Entrée. Glacier's Edge Council Spring Training Dates

We have many more training opportunities available this spring. If you have not gotten your roundtable copies of upcoming training opportunities, they can be found on the Council website. On the top bar select "training" and then the appropriate drop down menu for the training that you are interested in. Please register with the council office so we can plan for the necessary resources to make your training successful. If you have any questions please contact council training chair, Luann Rece at orchidscout@gmail.com

What makes a trained leader?

That seems to be the most asked question with the ever changing answer. January 2012, BSA has changed the requirements to be a "trained" leader with regards to wearing the patch. This is Scouting is no longer required, but is suggested as a supplemental training. All leaders must complete Youth Protection training every 2 years. I am sure there will be some clarification as it pertains to Journey to Excellence. To see the BSA "What Makes a Trained Leader" document visit: http://scouting.org/filestore/training/pdf/What_makes_a_trained_leader.pdf

Be Sure to Edit Your Personal Profile on "myscouting.org"

To better serve the training needs of our Scouters, it is important that your personal information in your "my scouting" account be accurate. Most importantly update your profile with your Member ID number and your email address.

Please follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to http://www.myscouting.organd sign in. On the left go to the top and click "Update My Profile"
  2. On this page you will find your name, email address, and address. At the bottom of the page you will find the council name and your Member ID number. If it is not there, please enter it.
  3. Click "add" and "save profile" boxes. This will link your on-line training records with the BSA training records. Use the training validation process described in last month's e-news to check your training status.
  4. If you need to find your member ID number, it is on your BSA membership card, and can be found on your unit roster which, your unit leader should have. You can also obtain your ID number by calling the Council Service Center.

Glacier's Edge Council Training Committee Needs YOU!

Many of the districts in our council do not have representation on the training committee. To make the position responsibility easier, we have a district training chair for each of the programs- Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing. If you would be interested is serving for a 1 year commitment, please talk to your district chair or district executive. The Council Training Committee meets the 4th Tuesday of the month. Our next meeting will be February 28th beginning at 7:00 PM at the Janesville Service Center. We always need trainers and if you have completed a course, you may volunteer to staff. If you do not know who to contact, email council training chair Luann Rece at orchidscout@gmail.com and your name will be forwarded to the appropriate course director.

National Jamboree 2013
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
summit
Scouting's flagship event is one-of-a-kind. It's a gathering of approximately 45,000 Scouts, leaders, and staff that showcases everything that is great about the BSA and its members. Over the course of 10 summer days, once every four years, the Boy Scouts of America comes together. The result is the national Scout jamboree.
A New Venue: The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve
In 2009, the BSA purchased 10,600 acres of property adjacent to West Virginia's New River Gorge National River area in order to create The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve (the Summit). The Summit is the new home of achievement, adventure, and innovation in Scouting. With world-class facilities and a focus on outdoor action sports, the Summit will welcome Scouts to a whole new jamboree experience in summer 2013.
Application Deadline is December 30, 2011
Rhythm & Booms
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Once again the Glacier's Edge Council has committed to canvassing the crowd to help collect funds for the Rhythm & Booms celebration and their charities. We need approximately 300 people (as many in uniform as possible) to do our job right.
Here is how you can help: Have your unit commit to participating by filling out the sign-up form and estimate the number of people from your unit who will help. (This is a great activity for the whole family and we need the estimates to accurately order buses.)
NOTE: The Madison Fireworks Fund (Rhythm & Booms) and private contributors, made several substantial contributions to worthy charities (including our Council) from the results of our participation in 2011.

Rhythm & Booms takes place on Saturday, June 30th, 2012; the buses will leave the Scout Service Center at approximately 4:00 p.m. and we return after the conclusion of the fireworks around 11:00 p.m.
**Please make a note that our rain date is Sunday, July 1st.

See the flyer for more information and see you at Rhythm & Booms!

A Reminder for Troops Coming to Boy Scout Summer Camp at EBSR or CIT

Just a reminder that the confirmation fee of $250 was due February 1, 2012. Many units still do not have this fee paid at this time. This fee is to confirm that you are coming to summer camp and it will save the campsite for your unit. This fee also counts towards your camping fees.

Please send this fee in as soon as possible so that we don't give away your site to another unit.

Attention All Unit Leaders Coming to Boy Scout Summer Camp at Ed Bryant Scout Reservation

There will be a leaders' meeting on Thursday, March 18th at 7:00 pm at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Monona. We encourage all units to send any of their adult leaders, especially those who have not been to camp before, in order to get the most up-to-date information about the summer program. Senior patrol leaders are also invited.
