Glacier's Edge Council Spring Training Dates
The spring training fliers have been out at the December and January roundtables. If you have not gotten your copies they can be found on the Council website. On the top bar select "training" and then the appropriate drop down menu for the training that you are interested in. Please register with the council office so we can plan for the necessary resources to make your training successful. If you have any questions please contact council training chair, Luann Rece at orchidscout@gmail.com
What makes a trained leader?
That seems to be the most asked question with the ever changing answer. January 2012, BSA has changed the requirements to be a "trained" leader with regards to wearing the patch. This is Scouting is no longer required, but is suggested as a supplemental training. All leaders must complete Youth Protection training every 2 years. I am sure there will be some clarification as it pertains to Journey to Excellence. To see the BSA "What Makes a Trained Leader" document visit: http://scouting.org/filestore/training/pdf/What_makes_a_trained_leader.pdf
Glacier's Edge Council Training Committee Needs YOU!
Many of the districts in our council do not have representation on the training committee. To make the position responsibility easier, we have a district training chair for each of the programs- Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing. If you would be interested is serving for a 1 year commitment, please talk to your district chair or district executive. The Council Training Committee meets the 4th Tuesday of the month. Our next meeting will be January 24th beginning at 7:00 PM at the Madison Service Center. We always need trainers and if you have completed a course, you may volunteer to staff. If you do not know who to contact, email council training chair Luann Rece at orchidscout@gmail.com and your name will be forwarded to the appropriate course director.

Scouting's flagship event is one-of-a-kind. It's a gathering of approximately 45,000 Scouts, leaders, and staff that showcases everything that is great about the BSA and its members. Over the course of 10 summer days, once every four years, the Boy Scouts of America comes together. The result is the national Scout jamboree. A New Venue: The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve In 2009, the BSA purchased 10,600 acres of property adjacent to West Virginia's New River Gorge National River area in order to create The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve (the Summit). The Summit is the new home of achievement, adventure, and innovation in Scouting. With world-class facilities and a focus on outdoor action sports, the Summit will welcome Scouts to a whole new jamboree experience in summer 2013. Application Deadline is December 30, 2011
