Wood Badge Staff Applications
When you were a Wood Badge participant, did you think "I would really like to serve as staff for a future course?" If you remember the Inclusiveness presentation, you know that all too often one rounds up the "usual suspects" often overlooking very good resources. With that in mind, the C3-620-12-1 Wood Badge staff application has been posted on line and is available to everyone that meets the staff qualifications. If you have completed Wood Badge for the 21st Century (or staffed since 2001) you may be eligible to serve on staff for the 2012 course. The application is available at http://glaciersedge.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/Wood-Badge-Staff-Application.pdf or contact Luann Rece, course director at orchidscout@gmail.com. Applications are due no later than January 15, 2012.
Validate Your Training Records
The Glacier's Edge Council training committee has began the process of validating the training records for the Unit Leaders beginning with Cubmasters. We have uncovered some issues and ask that you help our council have more complete training data.
Please follow these simple steps:
- Go to www.myscouting.org and sign in. On the left go to "training" then "training validation."
- Go to "direct search" and change the drop down arrow to "member ID" and change the "training search" to include all training. Do not search by User name!
- Here you will see what the council has listed for your training records.
- If you do not see your online trainings, please go to the home page and go to "update my profile". It is important that your correct Member ID be entered at the bottom of the profile page. This would be a good time to update the rest of your personal data such as email address as well.
- If you need to find your member ID number, it is on your BSA membership card, and can be found on your unit roster which, your unit leader should have. You can also obtain your ID number by calling the Council Service Center.
- Please be sure that you have taken the current training courses. All leaders must take Youth Protection (every 2 years so check the last date taken), This is Scouting (replaced New Leader Essentials) and Leader Specific training for your current registered position.
- What do you do if that doesn't work? Contact the Council Registrar for assistance and forward copies of training certificates to the office.
A course for Pack Trainers and Troop Training Coordinators will be offered at the All-Scouter PowWow on January 14. If your unit would like some assistance with tracking their training records and status, please send a representative. What makes a trained leader? Visit: http://scouting.org/filestore/training/pdf/What_makes_a_trained_leader.pdf
Glacier's Edge Council Training Committee Needs YOU!
Many of the districts in our council do not have representation on the training committee. To make the position responsibility easier, we have a district training chair for each of the programs- Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing. If you would be interested is serving for a 1 year commitment, please talk to your district chair or district executive. The Council Training Committee meets the 4th Tuesday of the month and does not meet in December or July. We always need trainers and if you have completed a course, you may volunteer to staff. If you do not know who to contact, email council training chair Luann Rece at orchidscout@gmail.com and your name will be forwarded to the appropriate course director.

Scouting's flagship event is one-of-a-kind. It's a gathering of approximately 45,000 Scouts, leaders, and staff that showcases everything that is great about the BSA and its members. Over the course of 10 summer days, once every four years, the Boy Scouts of America comes together. The result is the national Scout jamboree.
A New Venue: The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve In 2009, the BSA purchased 10,600 acres of property adjacent to West Virginia's New River Gorge National River area in order to create The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve (the Summit). The Summit is the new home of achievement, adventure, and innovation in Scouting. With world-class facilities and a focus on outdoor action sports, the Summit will welcome Scouts to a whole new jamboree experience in summer 2013.
Application Deadline is December 30, 2011

All Scouter Pow Wow
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
January 14, 2012
Deerfield High School, Deerfield Wisconsin
Catch the Fire of Scouting
The Glacier's Edge Council All Scouter Pow Wow is supplemental leader training at its BEST. It is designed to provide program ideas, resources and FUN for all Scouting volunteers. It is planned so that leaders may return year after year, earn certifications in their chosen fields and keep current on all that Scouting has to offer the youth of our area.
We have arranged the classes in interest areas that we are calling "tracks". A track is a guideline so that you can take all of the classes in that interest area all day if you choose. Tracks are just a planning device so that classes in the same interest area are not held at the same time. You can mix and match classes from any number of tracks.
Complete PDF version of class info here: Pow-Wow-2012-Flyer2 |
We want to know what your unit (pack/troop/crew) is doing for Good Turn For America and encourage you to report the details of your service projects.
You must report your service projects online to count towards your Journey to Excellence Award
Please report your hours monthly so we may recognize you and your Scouts for all your efforts and count it towards the total council service hours that are shared with our state government officials at the annual 'Report to State' event and with National BSA. Remember you can do this anytime throughout the year (and as many times as you want to report), but we MUST have all hours for the current year received by December 30th in order to count. |
It is Time to Recharter!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

All scout units in Glacier's Edge Council renew their charters in either January, February or March of each year. Your recharter date depends upon your district.
January Mohawk and Wisconsin River
February Southern Lakes and Yahara
March Indian Trails
Please be watching for your recharter packet. In it you will find a unit roster and other important information to guide you through the recharter process. The roster update is done online, using the code provided in your packet. Please take the time to correct contact information for everyone registered with your unit. You can also make leadership changes (for instance a wolf leader moves to cubmaster) without the need for a new adult application. When the roster is finished, a copy is printed and taken to your chartering organization for approval and signature. Then the signatures and a check for the total recharter fee must be forwarded to the Scout office. If you need assistance with any aspect of the process, contact your district executive or commissioner. Here are your contacts by district:
Indian Trails - Andrew Olsen, District Executive; Mike Buchanan, District Commissioner
Mohawk - Kerry Branham, District Executive; Joe Munns, District Commissioner
Southern Lakes - Steve Orlovsky, Acting District Executive; Heidi Gunyon, District Commissioner
Wisconsin River - Amanda Sherry, District Executive; Bryan Andres, District Commissioner
Yahara - Dennis Erickson, District Director; Sue Mabie, District Commissioner
